The servers are down, as is posted on the eq2players page, however they crashed. There was no ingame warning of servers coming down for maintenance and there is nothing on the eq2players page that indicares a planned down time. I just wish the people incharge would make a posting of the crash and estimated time for it being fixed so we didn't have to go through the "servers down?" thing each time.

I have and do not see anything meanful to me there. Rooting around I see a list of servers that are down. Nothing I see tells me the why, when, how, etc. Very unsusal for them to go down this early.

http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...mp;locale=en_US

*sigh*

The message on eq2players is the 3rd one down:

Scheduled Downtime on Tuesday, April 24th, 2007 -04/23/2007 All EverQuest II game servers will be brought down at 4:00 AM PDT tomorrow. This downtime should last for approximately two hours and end at 6:00 AM PDT. Please note that this downtime includes all game servers (US and international). Thank you for your patience during the downtime.

BUT, it is not listed on the network status page under scheduled downtime, the only place many of us check and there were NO in game warnings of any sort, even a 1 minute warning could have allowed us to get somewhere safe...

Before the forum revamp this kind of info used to be posted on the front page (which is my homepage), you didn't have to go rooting around in the news section for it, which I don't check regularly as there is rarely anything of much interest.

More than this, I really wish they'd say why the servers are coming down. I'm guessing it's for GU34, but it would be nice not to be kept in the dark.

When I click the link in the pprevious posts I do see a note on the servers coming down, however when I look at the server status, on the eq2players site, there is no mention of it. Just a list of servers down and the newest comment below that is for april 15th? Dow you have to pay for the extra features or something to get the current notifications? This is the page I see

http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...twork_status.vm

If you go there and there is a comment like the one from your links I would appreciate knowing? There still should have been in game notifications as many people play this game and never use eq2players. I certainly don't check it before logging in to play.

To say that its the player's responsibility to watch news sites on the off chance that the server won't warn is us is crap. To take precautions for something that only happens when the eq2 staff screws up makes no sense to me. They dropped the ball on warning most servers, thats all there is to it.

That is not even close to a logical comparison. Traffic going somewhere, or possible danger is quite a bit more severe than server downtime on a game. Those are the kinds of things that might be a good idea to look into beforehand, if able. The fact is, they set a precedent. For most/all downtimes I can recall, they have warned us. It was not us reading news to learn about impending downtimes. Cutting that practice on some servers, and upholding it on others is nothing like your given situation. Now, if we had a team of psychics warning people about car crashed before-hand, then your situation might be pertinent to the current thread.

I don't check the forum every day, and am used to the server going down around 6am PST, not 2 hours earlier. No in game warning that I could see on Najena, just got booted from the server while in the middle of Loping Plains. I visit the forums ocassionally, but I pay to play the game, not to read the forum. In game notice would be nice.

Maybe emergency fix to clear up some rampant exploiting ... ? massive dumping on station exchange 2 servers right now.. Maybe the fix couldn't wait? Price of plat on station exchange has dropped about 50% almost 5 days under .70 per plat on vox. Saw signs of it for a few weeks but nobody acted...... again... maybe everyone starting to post about it... made them act early. Who knows...

It's all a communist plot to over throw the government. The black helicopters should be hovering over your house soon. Sony is behind it all.
There have been times when I've been dead sure there wasn't a message before the servers went down. Then I talk to guild mates and they say they saw the message(s). It's easy to miss if you're zoning or quickly clicking through an NPC dialogue. So I'm guessing they did send out messages about the servers going down but that many people simply missed it. Perhaps they could make the 10 minute warning a box you actually had to click to close. Slightly annoying but less people would be booted in the middle of something dangerous. Still, there will always be people who never read what the pop-up boxes say before they close them... Or perhaps place a clock somewhere that counted down to _scheduled_ downtimes (kind of tough to plan an emergency).

In general SOE has made it a practice in the past to announce upcoming server downtimes via in-game announcements as well as posting on their website. With that being the case, if either announcement method is missed it can and probably will/does cause problems to some player or another as both methods can be used. If SOE missed updating the website instead I'm sure there's some player(s) out there using the website announcements to plan their playtime during that “unannounced downtime” and would have a similar issue as those players that didn't get the in game announcement. IMO it's not a matter of what I demand SOE does or how I think they should do it. If SOE wants to notify the player base in game, then that's where I'll be looking for it. If they give other options in providing the info, then I'm likely to pick the method that works best for me. I'm sure if I made a long distance phone call to CA, waited on hold, then requested this upcoming weeks downtime schedule, I might be able to get that information, but of course there's nothing to say that the person I speak to can't make a mistake and give me the wrong time/day/etc anyways which would lead to a similar situation. Something to remember is that the in game announcements is something SOE has decided to use themselves and, as with anything with the game, if somethings not working right or simply broke SOE does like to know about these things so they can fix em. If everyone was supposed to get the in game message, but didn't, then that's simply something SOE might want to be made aware of. -Gil

If I cant log in, I check the forums or the eq2players site for info. Why is this so hard for people to understand? Besides, its freak'n 4-6am pst scheduled this time. (/clap SOE) Go to bed, go to work, go to school, go for a walk, whatever. Its a game, go out into the real world children. Be in your world now! Its huge!

Neither SOE or The Devs need anyone to come on here & Defend them but on their behalf I have to say that not only was this Server downtime posted on the EQ2 players page but it was also posted in the Developer page, which you can access here on the Forums allday yesterday. I saw it and was ready for the downtime today, the people upset obviously didn't see these posts but how is that SOE's fault? They are people doing a job just like you & outside of sending an E-Mail or Calling every player,(Which some still would miss) how else can they make you aware of the Server Maint.? You all really need to step up and start accepting some responsibility for some issues and quit trying to pass blame when you miss info that was available to all, these SOE screwed me again posts are really starting to get abit old & tired.
