I have been involved in open raids on many T7 targets in KoS and EoF and until recently we did not have a coercer joining us. recently that changed but i have been getting the feeling the coercer that is with us doent get the full potential from his class. what can i expect from a coercer in a raid setting? I am familiar with enraging demeanor and the +dps buff he adds but what else does a coercer do. how much dps is reasonable to expect, are there any abilities that ten to fly under the radar that make up what a coercer does. thanks in advance for any replies.

In a raid, my coercer in the MT group usually does anywhere from 250-900 dps. More than that with a troub in the group. I'm usually busy enough with debuffs/stifles/stuns and power management that dps isn't #1 on my priority list.

A few things other than power regen, +dps, + hate a coercer can contribute are listed below. Personally, I like our AA abilities a lot, because I think they add a ton more functionality to our class.

1) AA: Coercive healing. The most important Coercer AA, IMO. Adds +15% to heals and wards for a single priest in the group.

2) Channel: evenly distributes power between all group members. Hence, the coercer should try to have his power pool over 7k and should be using his self hp/power transfer spell on any difficult fight, so he can act as a mana battery for the tank and healers when needed. Recast of 10-15 mins depending on AA enhancement.

3) AA: Empathic Aura. Adds around +15% to heal crits for the group.

4) Mana flow: Allows the coercer to sacrifice 10% of his health to transfer an ally 10% of their power. Works on anyone in raid. It takes a minute or two to kick in after its been cast, so it's best to cast this *before* a healer or tank has run out of power. I usually spam this on our inquisitor, power hog that he is.

5) AA: Thought snap: forces the mob to target a random fighter for 15(?) seconds.

6) AA: Empathic Touch: allows coercer to instantly decrease a group ally's threat to that ally's target (or the target's target) by around 1k. I use this on manaburners/soul warders/lifeburners quite a bit.

7) AA: Mana ward: coercer casts a 1 minute power ward for 334 'damage.' Fast recast and cast time, so you can spam it on mobs that drain a lot of power.

8. Consuming thoughts: group power heal/tap from a mob. For me, with aa enhancement and master 1, it heals 56ish power every six seconds for everybody in the group. The nice thing about this spell is that it works even when you're at the bard+enchanter power regen cap (which is around 108-115, depending on who you talk to). Coercers should have this spell active or refreshing all the time IMO.

9) AA--I forget its name, but it works like the troub's group de-hate buff. Makes all non-fighters in the group accrue 2-13ish % less hate.

10) Harmonizing link: single target buff that makes any raid target accrue 20-30% less hate, depending on whether it's enhanced with AA.

Probably a lot more I'm not thinking of, but I'm sure others can pick up the slack where I've left off.

Schmutzen, Vox

Coercers dps is very dependent on gear and spell quality. When Im in the MT group I parse around 800-1500. Im fully mastered and have pretty good raid gear.

What I do apart from that is keep the mt group at high mana (ok, the dirge helps a little) and add 10% mana to a raid member every 50 sec.

The rest is minor

Coercer DPS is ultimately dependant on how oftent he mob can land hits on people.

If you have a non-AoE mob, that's lower level than the MT and the MT is raid fabled geared... our DPS will be crap. If you have a 75 epic mob wailing on a so-so geared MT, our DPS goes through the roof.

You wanna see a Coercer pull aggro? Fight the High Priest in Lyceum and spam your reactives.. especially on his last stance. I've had damage spikes upwards of 20k when all of my melee and spell reactives go off at once within 2 seconds.

But yeah... normally our DPS will be quite low. What a Coercer brings to the raid will be power management and aggro management. At least, that's what they should be focusing on if they are in the MT group. And in all honesty, you can find a better replacement in a DPS situation (unless you REALLY need the regen, and even then you'll probably want the Illusionist... sigh).

I know some people may argue the point, but I think the well timed stun / silence / daze casts are something else a well played coercer brings to a raid. In a raid, I don't concern myself with DPS. Instead: - I debuff like crazy. - I make sure power is flowing constantly to the people who need it most. - I actively de-hate the people who seem to need it. - I look for those times when the tank starts getting too close to the red, and use my limited stun / silence / daze to buy the healers an extra 4 seconds. - And I cast my other damage spells when I think it's safe to do it. My DPS is usually sub-700, but I still think I bring alot to a raid. The way I see it, I'd rather help the DPS classes to DPS better. And one thing Ive really started to notice is this: When I raid on my coercer, the raid typically does very well. When I'm on my mystic instead, and there is no coercer, we usually don't do as well.

On a raid I will generally:

-DeAgro those that need it. Less actively if I'm in the MT group as the healers there will normally enjoy the most benefit from it.

-Use the mild stun, stifle, daze opportunities to let healers catch up here and there.

-Debuff magic for those master strikes.

-Keep the mana flowing to all of the group members. On power draining mobs I may channel if asked.

-Sacrifice equipment condition while trying to mem wipe Alzid.

-Make those on the raid lower than lvl 70 dance during every break.

-Turn every fae on the raid into a mouse with wings or a troll with wings.

Our DPS is highly dependent on the mob. Freethinker's raids are a true test for your coercer because it is THE zone for the best coercer dps while also having two mana fights. My personal best so far is 1606 Ext DPS on Zylphax the Shredder solo from MT group (no illusioinist or troubador). On trash, my personal best was a single ransacker with 2194 Ext DPS.

A lot of zones though can't allow good parses from coercers (i.e. Deathtoll--I have the most horrible time there). Third floor Emerald Halls is another place for a coercer to DPS. I know some coercers shy away from the "Under 30% power," but I keep it highly situational. DPS fights, I drop and DPS... Longer fights, I take my time going to 30% power, so I still have mana to give.

I debuff... Deaggro sorcerors, brigands, necromancers ... Stun/daze/stifle/INTERRUPT when tank is low (some forget that interrupts are also important) ... Amnesia any adds (HoS, Labs) and any named in general ... And most of all, power sharing. Your coercer should ALWAYS be asking for a Jester's Cap from the troubador. It is absolutely great for power feeding (and sometimes DPS). You'll double all of your spells casted, especially Mana Flow and Gorging Thoughts.

We DPS and provide utility.

Empathic aura is only worth it if coercer is with two healers, ie templar and warden. Otherwise coercer needs to spec AGI and Int for DPS.

DPS of a AGI/INT coercer should be in the 800-1500 ext dps raidwide avg, lower number if they are newer to the DPS spec but they should ultimately hit the 1500 point at sometime and possibly exceed it. Raidwide average is highly dependent on group makeup. The same factors apply to coercer DPS as to other mage DPS. Putting a mage with a troubadour will increase raidwide avg of that mage by a bit. Adding an illusionist to the raidforce and giving synergism to a coercer will also add a bit of DPS. Synergism should be mandatory on any DPS spec coercer as coercers cast many more spells compared to other mages due to AGI end point and chronosiphoning.

DPS of a MT speced coercer is going to generally be sub 800 zonewide.

Regardless of the DPS a coercer is doing with either setup they should be doing all the utility as well. Using gorging thoughts as much as possible, dumping priests 10% power in longer fights, using stun, stifle, or silence at appropriate times in battles as well as mez for that short duration CC when you get adds at the wrong time and your tank can't pick it up fast enough.

DPS mod is really only beneficial on melee classes that have high auto-attack damage. Putting DPS mod on a pally won't render as much a DPS increase as if it were on a swashbuckler. If your Coercer isn't with the MT group he needs to be with at least one scout, generally in an off tank group. I'd recommend two scouts for the DPS mod if your melee dps group is full and you are melee dps heavy.

Our deagro harmonious link is nice as well for certain casters that tend to pull quite a bit of agro on group encounters such as a warlock.
