I am coming back to the game after a very extended hiatus. I have a 34 guard and 26 lock and 14 Templar on a PVE server. I really want to pick one class and concentrate on that one so that I might actually get to the expansions some day, lol. My guard is great if I have a group but without, killing is sllloooowww. I never really enjoyed my Lock that much because I for some reason don't like the gear for casters as far as looks and I just haven't taken to the character. I so far have really liked my Templar and was wondering about a couple things on down the road. Do they get a variety of damage spells through the levels? I really have a tendency to get bored if I am using the same order of spells over and over which kinda sucks being a mmorpg player I know. Is thier dps solid and decent throughout? I am worried about draining everything I have to drop a mob. Right now everything is golden but later are there any issues? I am worried about putting alot of time into another class through this lower content and ending up not enjoying the class. I am kind of ready to move on in the game. Thanks

sadly in this game most spells are on a 13 level cycle for upgrades with new spells that do not upgrade at 47, 52, 55, 58, and 65. Then a spell that is unique at 50 and upgrades at 70.

The answer is I suppose it depends greatly on your equipement as well as achievement lines, though no matter what, I doubt I'd ever call our dps "solid". With enough achievement points in the right trees you can do moderate damage. Check out one of Kendrake's many posts about templar DPS to get more info on it.

Uh. Varied spell damage?

Not really.

You have 4 damage spells (5 if you count that feeble thing from one of the adventure packs)

1. Holy smite line.

2. Judging smite line

3. Warring axom - Can't recall the exact name of the line. Nuke + 4 tic dot

4. Group Smite - Can't recall this either, but it hits a group of enemies - Not AOE. group only.

5. Symbol of Corruption (Cheesy adventure pack spell) Does about 40 damage at adept 3, -38 or so wisdom from target.

Templars as a whole kill pretty slow, Thier hard to kill and can put out some decent damage (With the right equipment and aa's)

--------------------

Is thier dps solid and decent throughout? Most fights you'll use about 1/5th of your power. Against a ^ you may use up to half (even match, High levels will obviously use more power)

Against a ^^ to a ^^^ you'll end up dry, with every trick and ability you have used.

My best so far, Is a level 69^ heroic group (4 mobs, all ^)

Oh yeah, Templars are Extreamly powerful when they mentor

-B-

Its solid I guess, that doesnt mean its big. Even specced partially as I am for DPS Its nothing to gasp at. The AA's put in the right places help with that. Most of the templars variey doesnt come from the damage spells, but you do get a lot of variety in other ways, stuns, dazes, debuffs, proc heals, proc cures and of course, a variety of heals. The only time I get really bored is when I end up having to spam heals, in specific types of scenarios.

I dont generally drain everything in a fight unless I'm really stretching on a kill, but the fights tend to be pretty slow, in comparison at least to other damage focused classes.
