Hello, I recently switched over from WoW to EQ2 and am having a great time. I am playing as a ranger on a PVP server and am having a hard time deciding what profession I should pick. I know that they are all helpful in their own way, but I am wondering what the experienced players consider to be the most beneficial profession for a ranger and why. Currently I am debating between taking alchemy in order to help in soloing and pvp, woodworking in order to craft my own bows and arrows, or armorer to take advantage of all the armor slots available. Any input will be much appreciated. Also, is transmutting useful for a ranger?

Welcome aboard . As a ranger and a crafter I'd probably lean towards the professions in the following order: 1. Alchemist ... poisons, stat buffs, cures, heals etc ... you go through a lot of these or at least I do. 2. Jeweler ... I'd pick jeweler over armorer since you can make jewelry slot items and your own adept III's 3. Woodworker and armorer tied ... having an armorer is great at the beginning of each tier but it is also nice to make your own arrows (though with the recent changes to quantity used/produced you don't go through near as many arrows as you used to). Just my two cp mostly I would say choose a profession you feel is both useful AND interesting so that you enjoy lvling. As for transmuting and tinkering ... both are useful but neither are necessary and atm they are a bit of a money sink imo.

Personally, i like carpenter. i know not as beneficial to us. ( except my house is nice ) but i hate crafting. but from others i have read and know. you wanna make either arrows, or poison. As a newb, arrows are relatively cheap til higher levels and even then you have makeshift ones. but poison can hit ya hard even at lower ones. Think its like 1g per at 25. and i have gone thru 2 bottles to get to 25. and with 3 types of poison you can use, it will add up fast. From my reading, most peeps use cheap arrows for grinding and soloing, saving expensive ones for raids or when dps is essential.

Understand, thats from my perspective as a 25 ranger and from reading the forums. i may be wrong
