I am new to the game and was wondering what tradeskill would benefit me the most both getting to lvl 70 and profit wise from sales on the AH? I was thinking maybe armorsmith or weaponsmith since being an assassin we can wear chain armor and of course use melee weapons.

Just wanted to know what some of the vets thought.

I'm not up to date on which class is the most profitable at the moment, but alchemist would be a good choice since you'll always be using poisons and potions. Weapons and armor you'll only make for yourself rarely, every 10 levels-ish.

Most profitable is provisioner. The problem with being an alchemist/weapons/armor is that you have to keep your TS level about 8-9 levels above your adv level. When you hit x2 and you are ready for the new mastercrafted gear, you will need an armorer/weaponsmith that is at least x8 to get all of the necessary pieces. Alchemists get a couple of new poisons/potions per level but the ones most useful, e.g. caustic poison, come later in the tier. Jeweler is nice because if you keep your adv level and TS level even you can upgrade your spells every time you level. However you run into the same problem with making jewelry as you do with weapons/armor. Another con to jeweler is that once you are 70 adv level, there's not really much left to use it for. As far as profit goes top is provisioner followed by alchemist and woodworker.

Don't forget woodworker as being a pretty good/profitable choice. I chose it to keep myself in arrows. You get to make the arrows at about x6, so you need to either be 6 levels ahead of you adventure level, or (like me) be willing to use the previous levels arrows until you work the tradeskills up. Selling arrows is moderately profitable. Over the past week or so, I've been doing like 10-20g a day. But, all in all, I think I wish I'd gone for alchemist. I use many more potions than arrows. Woodworker is probably a more excellent choice for a ranger. -t
