is the mystic a shaman?

<p>Hey I am new and played EQ. Is the mystic a shaman? Also, which of the priest classes melee too?</p>

Yes, the Mystic is a shaman for eq1 however also the Defiler is as well.  In eq2 they split up the eq1 shaman class in to 2 parts, the evil side (defiler) and good side (mystic).  Do some research on each class to see which you like the best. The mystic is the more melee oriented shaman though.  The melee cleric is the Inquisitor and the melee druid is the Warden.  Hope that helps.
