View Full Version : Best Melee Combo with Fury?

MY wife and I are planning on playing EQ2 again from scratch and she decided to be a Fury because she simply loves all that they represent, "The destructive force of nature". I've been having problems picking an excellent melee class to go good with this combo of a fury/melee. I dont mind being a tank but a Guardian I dont know about. Wouldnt I just be holding aggro while she nuked everything? That doesnt sound too fun. I was wondering exactly what melee (Scouts or Tanks) is the best combo to work with a Fury to level up quickly and efficiently as a duo. Provide any comments as to why this comment works so I know what role I'd be playing in such a combo.

I can say from experience that a Fury/Swash combo will work well. Me and a guildie duo at times. Shes a fury and my swashie. Swashies have a good DPS, they also get a threat increase ability to help hold agro, mastered they work even more effectivly. Swashies, and I think most would agree, make pretty good tanks. They don't do as well as plate tanks ofcourse, they depend more on avoidance then mit but between me and my guildie we wipe pretty much anything. Its not perfect, sometimes we hit rough spots but it gets rough sometimes even in a full group. All in all I would have to suggest Fury/Swash as an option. Both are an enjoyable class and alot of fun to play in a duo.

Typo edit *Note ignore the way this sounds like a mess of thoughts, my mind works like that regularly.

I agree with Eternalwound, the Fury/Swashy is the best. My wife and i started that duo when EoF came out, and have never looked back. The Defensive AA's the swashy gets puts them on par with tanks, as far as tanking noraid mobs. Add in Tracking, evac, debuffs, taunts, smuggle and the swashy dps, there isnt much this duo can't do as long as its thier level range.

Fury and Swash are OK... and the tracking is a nice "pick-up" by going scout... as is evac. I'm a Bezerker + Fury... and I will tell you right now that I can do more with just those 2 toons than just about any other Duo.... basically Fury is rock solid as a Duo-class... between INT buffs or the agitate (DPS+Haste proc) buff any class from any archetype will love you... in a Duo. The one thing I found myself missing was Tracking... so I added a Troubadour into my mix-up.... but I didn't need it.... Technically a Dirge would be better but one of my good buddies is a Dirge and we hang out alot and I didn't want to step on any toes... Bards are good for "low maintence" playing in EQ2 which is why I didn't pick one of the other scouts. I'd say either combo is solid.... but a Necro wouldn't be a horrible pick either just have to watch the aggro. Necros love regen... the pet would love Agitate... the necro would love your int buffs... it's just a matter of the pet holding aggro. I haven't tested that combo though...

Ok there are good points on alot of the melle classes that can duo with a fury.... Swashy: Great dps, nice utility and can tank well for a scout. But id rather be skinned alive than play one.... Its all personal prefrence but a solid choice all the same. Bruiser : Good dps, good tanking and FD....another good choice SK : Nice dps, very good tanking, life taps, FD AND gets the biggest bonus from the fury buffs....INT Berserker : My personal fav. Great dps, great tanking... Ya know in a way it all comes down to what u wanna wear. Or your personal play style...do u like: Plate, chain or leather. Do you like avoidance or Mitigation? Do you enjoy playing a scout class? When it comes down to it any of these choices are good ones for diff reasons. Its totaly up to you. PS: I have a 70 zerker and i raid with a very good swashy and i do as much dps as him....And more when im tanking....

i like what Kage848 said... wer they give u a list of toons. . . including the sk

But one note: end game fury.. .well end game toons as a whole are diffrent from the toons in the begining. Toons evolve to be able to dps more. they gain new spells types every so many many lvls. for a fury they dont get ther first DD untill lvl 23 ... and first aoe untill 32. then aoe stun at 45 and dumb fire pet at 55 So dont expect to come out shooting

You'll be healing the whole fight (on both chars) and will run out of power.

If you start nuking you *will* steal agro, guaranteed.

Not a good combo - there are better ones out there. agressiv

A dps specced (both melee and spells) templar is also a good duo for a fury. The templar would receive ginormous benefit from the fury buffs and would be able to tank fairly easily.

Shadowknights and Paladins are fairly good partners, but those 2 classes suck in general, so they inherently aren't the best (tho with agitate and vim, they should be).

A battle Mystic/Defiler/Inquisitor also work pretty well, just not as well as the templar as far as complementing buffs go.

Though brawlers are a pretty adequate choice, I wouldn't recommend them, as rogues can do more damage and are easier to heal for a Fury.

Rogues are a pretty good choice, tho arguably work better with a warden than a fury. That way the rogue could turn the mob onto the warden (who has much higher defensive capability than a fury) and unload some flank attacks while the warden tanks.

Berserkers are pretty good with the ae dps they provide post 50/58, but in all honesty, a guardian can do almost as much dps with the same aa's and have much better defensive capability for those times you just need a stronger tank.

Necros aren't really great for the reasons listed above (I've tried this as well) unless they have tainted heals, but conjurors do actually work pretty well. The conjuror pet holds hate a lot better due to elemental vestment and blazing presence/avatar.

Coercers and Illusionists aren't melee, much like summoners, but thought I'd mention them anyway They actually make pretty good partners, though they don't really need you, you are just a safety + added dps.

Once you max your snare aa, sorcerers become pretty wicked partners. 3 roots, a somewhat permanent 61% snare, and tons of ranged damage.

"Berserkers are pretty good with the ae dps they provide post 50/58, but in all honesty, a guardian can do almost as much dps with the same aa's and have much better defensive capability for those times you just need a stronger tank." I agreed with everything u said except this. This is purely fiction...I Have duel-boxed a Zerker/Fury and Guardian/Fury....And the Guardian/Fury dps is way lower even with both sta line speced...My Zerker will do 3X the damage of a guard with destruction open wounds and juggernaught. Also MUCH better tanking ability is not true either....Only reason to make a guard is for raiding or lazy tanking....Make a Zerker for dps....=0)

I can't imagine any class that fits better to duo with a fury.

His SK isn't even raid-geared (just some odds and ends from EoF instances, and some xegonite) but our little trio is absolutely ridiculous. In PoA he can pretty much just keep himself alive most of the time, which gives me time to DPS.

Shadowknights just suck compared to other classes, though of course a very well played shadowknight can excel, that doesn't mean anything about the class itself. An equally well played Berserker will completely trump a shadowknight in every single feasible aspect. Even paladins do very similar dps (especially with aa's), hold aggro much better, and can heal themselves pretty well.

My main is a 70 SK Wis/INt/Reaver spec and i've been playing mmo's for almost 10yrs.

I haul my mentored 2box'd Fury around as dead weight while I AE groups of yellow Heroics solo.

Screw all the other fighter/scout classes. A well played (rare as we are) SK is a straight up killing machine. Imagine if I even bothered to cast with the fury too haha. :0
