My friend and i are coming back and we were wondering what would be the best duo? If anyone can toss out some ideas that would be really helpful. We will be playing on a non-pvp server if that helps.

Well, any tank + any healer would be the traditional one, but there are lots of other combinations that will work too if neither of you fancy being a tank or a healer. Two mages can be quite powerful, especially if one has a pet (conjuror, necromancer, illusionist) which can do the tanking for them. One of the high-damage scouts + a healer would work well too. Tank + dirge can be great (I've duo'd a lot with bruiser + dirge) or tank + any DPS class, especially if the tank has some healing ability (bruiser, paladin, monk). Two pet classes (conjuror, necromancer, illusionist).

Really, you can make pretty much any duo work. The ones you'll probably have most problem with is where you put two very low damage classes together, or two medium/low damage classes who have no healing ability. If one of you can heal, or if both of you do so much damage that the monster dies before you need healing, then there shouldn't be any problem. What is more important is to pick classes that suit how you guys like to play. For example, if one of you has reflexes of a slug (like I do) you probably don't want them to be a tank (or a healer) but they might enjoy a pet class or a bard, where the pets/buffs do most of the work. Two characters you both really enjoy playing will find a way to duo. If one of you doesn't like a class, it's not going to work well no matter how good it looks on paper!

You should also consider what roles you want to play when you're in groups and at the high end, how desirable you want to be on raids and such. This may affect your choice of classes now (for example, tanks are generally not in high demand on raids. But dps is always handy and bards and enchanters are very desirable, so a dps + enchanter, dps + bard, or even bard + enchanter might be something to consider if you both want to end up very desirable when raiding.

There's a stickied post near the top of this forum called 'frequently asked questions', in there is a section called "what class/race should I play" and that has a brief overview of all the classes and their standard roles. I suggest you both have a read over it and think about which classes appeal to you, then if you're still not sure, either have a play around on the newbie island and see how they do together, or post your preferred combinations here and see if folks have experience duoing with specifically those classes. Don't be afraid to try out several classes, it took most of us a few tries to find one we like, and it isn't always the class you initially expect it to be!

I'v duoed some with my coercer and my friends necro, and we'r able to take out some realy tought mobs, we'v killed orange heroic names and the like, either he uses his tank pet and I charm a damage pet, or I charm a pet with alot of health, and he uses his mage pet, or if need be we both use mage pets and just root/stun the mob and bash them down.

There's basicly no limits to what you can duo, but you might as suggested avoid two low damage classes.

My friend likes to play rangers and i decided to play a conjuror. You think those two will go together?

Yes these two classes should work just fine together, your pet will make a good tank for you both so you dont have to take as many hits while you'r blasting spells at them and your friend is fireing off arrows like the crazy ranger he is

Just keep in mind that you will most likely have to upgrade your pet (ie, atleast buy the adept 1 version, perferably get a crafter to make you an adept 3 or even buy a master 1), and your pet buffs, to make it able to keep monsters on himself, and not run for you or your friend.

I was in a warlock/coercer duo earlier today and it was embarrassingly ridiculous what we were taking out. Between the 3 roots we could stack on a mob, plus my stuns, stifles, and dazes on my coercer. . . plus I had a nice dps pet charmed. It was almost like cheating. Tearing through ^^^ mobs (blue to me, yellow to the warlock) like tissue paper.
