I'm newer than noob, been playing for less than a week and already hooked.

Simple question really, don't know if the answer is so simple. Could someone please explain to me what alternative characters are? Have seen it on character select screen but not sure what it does.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Okay, we're dealing with two different things, here.

On your character screen, you have a button for "Alternate Appearance". This is because a lot of the characters have two possible character models, the original, and SOGA, which is more of an anime look. The button to set alternate appearance is there so you can make sure that no matter what other players choose to look at, original or SOGA models, you will have made your character appear as you want them to.

Alt characters, on the other hand, are just secondary (or tertiary, or quaternary...) characters that you play. Most people play one character most of the time, their "main" character. However, many people also have other characters that they play from time to time. These are referred to as "alts".

As for me, I have one main, a mystic. I have, I think, 7 alts right now.

I am not completely sure what you are asking but alt's are usually the characters that a person has but are played less then their "main" character ("toon" is what some people call their characters) which they play the majority of time. Your main is the one you usually lvl to 70 first because you like playing it best.

Ah, thank you very much. I expect I'll be back at some time to ask more questions, but for the time being that's cleared that one up.

I haven't really got a main or alt char yet, still trying to decide what I like most. I've got a lvl 10 high elf ranger that had just left starter island, a lvl 9 human wizard that will be leaving soon and a lvl 3 high elf conjurer.

I'm a Guild Wars vet, well been playing for the last 14 months. I usually solo or play with hero/hench most of the time there and also prefered playing rangers and casters. I've noticed that in EQ2, there are more professions and they play a lot different from GW. So I don't really know which class I'll end up with yet.

For now I'll go along with these 3 and see how they pan out.

I'm using europian Runnyeye server, was that a right decision or not. Need to find these things out before I get too far.

Assuming you are in Europe (and it looks like you're in the UK) Runnyeye should be fine. The main difference between EU servers and US servers is that the majority of people from those parts of the world are on their respective servers. Means more people around at the same time to group with if you choose ^_^

What server you choose can also depend a bit on what you like to do, if your a diehard soloer then it might be better to play on a server with an diffrent timezone than you, so if you live in europe play on an US server, this means that you have less people running around when your playing, and that means you have better chance of geting to kill those mobs you want to kill without other people geting em right before your eyes. However, doing this can limit your grouping options and drasticaly lower your raiding options, so I wouldnt recomend this for the avg player who's just started and think they are going to "mostly solo" as grouping in this game is ALOT more fun than most other MMO's out there and is what makes this game great if you ask me .
