You can right click your xp bar (IIRC) and disable combat experience. That means that you don't get experience for any mobs you kill. Usually the benefit is to complete low green quests before they gray out by only getting experience from turning in the quest itself. It's also a way to keep your level low if you don't want to surpass a friend or group of friends who play less, for example. One biggie is so that you can build up AA points before you lose eligibility from the quests that give them.

You can turn off combat XP by right-clicking on your XP bar and selecting the 'disable adventure xp' option.

Most people don't ever do this, but there might be a number of different reasons to:

playing on a PvP server and want to slow down levelling in order to have the best possible equipment for the level (this is called "level locking&quot thus gaining an advantage over other players the same level

playing regularly with a friend who may not have as much play time, and don't want to out-level the friend

quest-aholic wanting to complete as many quests as possible before they turn grey

want to kill as many named critters as possible to get the phat lewtz before they turn grey (grey critters don't drop chests)

If you have your adventure XP disabled, you still do gain XP from completing quests and discovering new areas, your advancement rate is just slowed. I know people who've levelled ove 30 levels with their adventure XP turned off, just by questing. Depends on what you want to do in your game, really!

Just a quick reminder.

Quests never actually turn grey for experience. Completeing any quest will always grant you any loot and experience associated with that quest .... except for AA experience.

Not too long ago, quests never conned below green. Now they do so that people can see which quests will still grant them AA.
