View Full Version : RANT - Things in This Game that Annoy Me

/rant on

Here's an incomplete list of things in this game that drive me insane. Please try to keep in mind my principal reason for posting this is for entertainment. But these things really do get my goat.

1. "Default" list in the recipe window - I have saved one list in my recipe window called "Defalut" and then a bunch of other lists saved as "Default: Work Bench", "Default: Stove & Keg", etc. It used to be that if you called up your recipe window without selecting a crafting station you would get the "Unfiltered" list, not the Default list, and if you wanted the Default list you had to hit the "Edit" button and then hit "Cancel" (or select the Default list from the drop-down list of lists). But at least you always get the Default list specific to the crafting station when you opened up your recipe list by double-clicking on the crafting station. Not so anymore. A recent LU made it so that you don't even get your Default list then. So, it never, ever defaults to the Default list. Annoying. For good measure, the applicable definition of "default" is:

a value that a program or operating system assumes, or a course of action that a program or operating system will take, when the user or programmer specifies no overriding value or action

Perhaps the names of these lists should be changed since they are anything but the default.

2. Magolemus (aka. Smegmalemus) - How many times have you been getting a group together, after determining that Smegmalemus is up, only to have someone aggro the mob too early and have it depop by the time you had enough toons present to kill it? Annoying. I noticed something recently about this. On a toon that was on the part of the quest to kill Smegmalemus, I ran past him heading from Sol's Eye towards the rest of Lavastorm, staying as close to the lava and as far away from him as possible. He didn't change to the aggro mob. Which is a good thing because I was NOWHERE NEAR him. On my return trip, tracing my steps in the opposite direction (putting me about 17 miles from him) he turned into the aggro mob. Maybe this explains why he always aggros too early. You don't need to get anywhere near him, you just need to be traveling generally north.

3. Dragging items in your bags/bank - Often times when I drag an item, either no item attaches to my cursor or the item next to the one that I'm dragging gets dragged. It never used to be this way until an LU many, many months ago. Annoying. REALLY annoying. I'm not the only one having this problem either. FFS fix this already.

4. Depopping harvest nodes - This is a relatively new phenomenon whereby harvest nodes depop while you are harvesting them. Annoying. I had a harvesting session where it happened at least 6 times in a row. And then sometimes they would depop right as I walked up to them too. Lame.

5. Blank crafting window - This old chestnut has been around since the beginning but seems to be happening to me a lot more often lately. I double click on the crafting station to get my recipe list, select one, then click on "Begin" and in response I get a completely blank window. No crafting occurs. Annoying.

6. Favor of Innovation (I think that's what it's called -- not that I would know -- but I mean the crafting event that gives you a rare raw) - I have 9 crafters, each of them either level 61 or 62. I have never botted or crafted while afk for even a minute in achieving all these levels. I counter every event faithfully to the best of my ability. I have yet to EVER get the event that gives you a rare raw. Annoying. C'mon, can I please have one before I max out on all 9 toons? Does it really need to be THAT rare? (And yes I know that at one time you had to press the counter for the event ONLY and no other counters afterwards -- don't know if it's still that way -- but I have never even seen the event.)

7. Pet unable to attack - There are tons of threads about this already. It can happen to you on a completely level surface where your pet is 2 milimeters from the mob staring at it nose to nose. Annoying.

8. Direction of the spinners on the hotbar windows - A recent LU made a nice innovation whereby you can switch the direction of the spinners. Alright, I suppose it's nice, but did you have to switch them by default and force us to open the settings on every hotbar to switch them back? And do all of this without ever disclosing this in the patch notes (at least I didn't see it and I really do try to read them all)? Annoying. Why can't you just implement the change and tell us about it, without changing the setting for everyone? If someone wants to switch the direction of the spinners let them do it. It reminds me of when they added the functionality to turn off your Windows key on your keyboard. I use that key all the time. When they added the functionality to turn it off, they turned it off for everyone, forcing you to go turn it back on if you want to use it, then they hid the toggle somewhere in options that was completely and utterly counterintiutive (I forget where it is/was).

9. Quellious pet - [Removed for Content] this thing is a monstrosity. And if that wasn't bad enough, it's bugged so that at least half of the time you move and stop, it comes to rest directly on top of you. And then, if that wasn't bad enough, it keeps flapping those gigantic wings to make sure that it obstructs everything, everywhere. Try being a gnome and harvesting with this thing hovering all over you and/or the node you're trying to harvest (which it often hones in on). Annoying.

10. Timers on the teleport spires - It's nice that they count down the minutes for you. But does the last minute have to be 3 minutes long? Annoying.

11. The banker in the Baubbleshire - The way he makes that stuttering noise in the middle of his speech absolutely makes me want to get my hands around his throat and give him a reason to stutter. This is the most annoying thing ever. Why does he have to say the same exact thing every [Removed for Content] time I go to the bank? Annoying. Beyond annoying.

/rant off

Feel free to add what annoys you the most!

It never used to be this way until an LU many, many months ago. Annoying. REALLY annoying. I'm not the only one having this problem either. FFS fix this already. Yes. Incredibly annoying, happens ALL the time. 7. Pet unable to attack - There are tons of threads about this already. It can happen to you on a completely level surface where your pet is 2 milimeters from the mob staring at it nose to nose. Annoying. This rarely happens to me for some reason, and only when I am standing on a steep hillside. I have noticed the pet not attacking sometimes when on level ground, but without the 'unable to attack' message. A second or third click of my attack hotkey sends him right in. 4. Depopping harvest nodes - This is a relatively new phenomenon whereby harvest nodes depop while you are harvesting them. Annoying. I had a harvesting session where it happened at least 6 times in a row. And then sometimes they would depop right as I walked up to them too. Lame. Hasn't happened to me yet, but I haven't harvested all that much recently. If they've upped the rate at which nodes despawn and respawn elsewhere, it seems like perhaps a reasonable solution to the problem of having a node stuck in the terrain for days. My #1 peeve with the game is placeholder mobs. Mobs needed for quests are sometimes very rarely around because they have all been killed several times and respawned as something else. Examples that come to mind are spearfish in EL (ocean glider PH), Sullians in Nek (ash wraith PH), Clerics of Hate in Crushbone (various dark elf mobs are PH). Placeholders for non-quest related named are one thing, this serves no purpose that I can concieve of, its just annoying. It forces me to look up quests on Allakhazam far more often than I'd like, since it is not usually something logical.

It's really, really irritating.

#7: Agreed completely.

#9: SOE, please, please, please for the love of all the GODs, turn these stupid GOD pets into self-cast only buffs. I firmly believe the GOD pets were one of the single worst ideas yet. I'm sick of raids looking like freekin' circus parades.

#11: Agreed completely. The banker in Willow Wood is just as irritating. I'm tired of hearing that bimbo's voice already, I don't ever want to hear it again. PLEASE SOE allow us to turn off an NPC's voice PERMANENTLY once we've heard it the first time.

My #1 biggest pet peeve, tho .....

Armor Dyes!!!!!!!! Blast it all, SOE, make them happen already!!!!! I'd be perfectly happy if we given a slate of only a few select colors, to avoid the issue of Bards running around looking like someone dunked them in cans of Hot Pink or Puke Yellow. At the very least, allow us to dye armor & such in colors like dark green, blue, black, brown, steel, etc.

I'd like to add....

1). items looting directly into bags. This adds the step of having to open the bag to get access to delete junk items or to examine harvested collectables. I'd love to be able to set it so that looted items go to empty inventory slots if I so choose. It would make collectibles so much easier.

2). falling damage. I fell approximately 6 feet today (the length of my character off the ground) and suffered about 80% of my health in damage. Annoying.

3). disappearing pets. When I CAN get my pet to attack, sometimes, right after combat, and especially on a hill, my pet will disappear completely, usually aggroing tons of stuff somewhere else. I also find that the stuff it aggros comes running after me later, no matter how far away I get.

4). everything about troubadours, including their spelling.

One of the reasons for the new system is to enable the devs to make armour pieces at a rate faster than 24 pieces in 18 months. So currently the only thing they can lean back on to give the players new armour, is to in fact tint them. If the players can dye the armour pieces themselves, the devs would be backed in a corner. One thing's for sure, the reason "With dyes people will look like clowns." is rather moot. Most T7 tanks, hell most non robe wearers look like clowns right now. OP I agree with all of you points.

What??!?!? No rendering bug??? Anyways these fall into the category of "minor annoyances" which is odd since EQ2 does actually have some key issues atm.

#11 To the stupid Banker in Willow Wood: " I have never tried to get a loan using livestock collateral, nor do I plan on trying, however if you ask me one more time I am going to shove a chicken up your [Removed for Content]!"

I gotta agree with the OP. These things are very annoying. I don't mind that double clicking the banker also hails him, but why? If there was a purpose to hailing the banker, this would make sense. But there is NOT. And I also agree - does he have to say the same thing every time? Even by right clicking and selecting "BANK", he STILL tells me that I don't qualify for a line of credit at this time. I didn't even ask him anything! GAH! And I'm really surprised that you can't type the word m-i-s-t with the forum filters, but you CAN use the word "SMEGMA"?

The game was laggy enough without making all 24 members of the raid bring a menagerie of lions, magical birds, floating imps and naked dwarves along with them. The banker in the Baubbleshire

Yeah I don't know what the idea here was. I actually like the Voiceover stuff, that's what made EQ2 unique at first was all the different talking characters. I'm still surprised now and then when wandering around the old world I meet a questgiver who actually speaks. Why doesn't Nagafen talk anymore? Is it that expensive to hire voice talent?

But hearing the same town VOs over and over again and now FORCING us to hear the banker repeat the same line is kind of silly. For a short time the "right side" banker in QH didn't have a VO so I was using her. But in the last GU they FIXED it, so now she gives her VO properly. Thank Marr Almighty they fixed the annoying broken VO on Banker #3 in Qeynos Harbor.

To this I would add my own annoyances...

12. The way things that were fine tend to get broken after a GU that had nothing to do with them. Example: Noxious Reprieve potions. No update was mentioned or presumably intended for them, but they got heavily nerfed last update. Elemental, Arcane, Trauma reprieve all A-OK, just Noxious got nerfed. Example: Horse graphic gets stuck making a right turn. No changes noted in the rest of the way the horse works, but since two LUs ago they now tend to get stuck if you're in a fight.

13. Ninja Nerfs. This goes along with the previous item. Things that get changed without anyone being told of it or advising the playerbase. Example: The Dar locket only goes off once now for 400 points of damage. It used to go off on every hostile spell. Wish we'd known that before we ran 10 people through the questline before the Harla Dar raid.

14. Rendering delay. 'Nuff said about that already.

15. Lack of support. Example: My default standard UI seems to break somehow about every 2-3 months and I have to reset it and start over. I make a backup but that always seems to be broken too. I can't get anything but a stock canned response from CS about it. "Do not use your custom UI". I'm not using one. "Delete the UI and start over" Yeah I know, but I keep having to do that. "Reinstall the custom UI." I am not using a custom UI. "Reinstall the game" OK that's crazy talk.

16. The waypoint system. Egads this thing is messed up. I can't tell you how many times it tells me to jump off a cliff and then jump right back up it.
