I am a Lvl 6 guardian and I left the island im taking it a little early then some who stay an extra 3-4 levels, but I just couldnt complete some quests and I wanted to get out and mingle. So I was a little impatient but did I hurt myself any by doing this or should I reroll and start over? I did pick up artisan because I want to do carpentry. Which is better swashie or guardian? Is being a dwarf good or just whatever?

>So I was a little impatient but did I hurt myself any by doing this or should I reroll and start over? You didn't hurt yourself at all. The beginner zones are all tuned to players who leave the island between level 5 and 9.

>Which is better swashie or guardian? Ahem, I'm *slightly* biased, but swashie owns.

>Is being a dwarf good or just whatever? Whatever. Racial differences are easily corrected with gear, so pick your race and gender on looks and let your gear adjust the stats. Of course, in the case of the Fae right now, their racial differences have a significant gameplay advantage (feather fall and such), but that's just the start of new racial traits for all races.

But! My personal opinion is that some classes are better served with smaller toons. For example, I have an Iksar Brigand and a Ratonga Swashbucker, but I'm much more comfortable with the swashie in a group due to his much smaller size. The tank classes that I've tried were more comfortable with larger frame toons, and healers were definitely better off not getting in the way. I didn't notice much difference with an offensive caster though.

>Oh and in this game how are evil, and good portrayed Let's see, evil are concentrated awesome, and good are fruity wusses who blather on about justice and cry foul when I relieve them of their blood pressure. Oddly enough, I tend to take an evil stance even when hanging out in Qeynos or Kelethin...

>I wanted to do the ratonga swashi but I didnt know how evil played out That's easy. There's no such thing as an evil Ratonga swashie because Swashbucklers are a good class. You have to start out as a Ratonga Brigand and betray before you can be a swashie.

>but want to see what it taste like on the other side. You know that iron taste when you bite your tongue. It's like that, except sweeter because it's not your blood.

I think I want to be evil and just reroll. How is brigand starting off fresh?

>How is brigand starting off fresh? Tricky. Scout classes have a lot of positional attacks, so you'll end up doing a lot of jumping and moving around. It requires either an active play style and good timing or regular grouping with a good tank if you want to be really effective. Brigands are a blast though, and I regularly shock people with how much power I can add to a group.

I went to Nektulos after trying a couple of others and never looked back. I can't say whether it's good or not, but it's good enough for me and my alts.

Heheh, you don't have to take all of my recommendations. I may be clueless. But if you're on Nektulos, feel free to send me a tell if I'm on my swashie. Just ask for Hachi.

Hi and welcome!

Ultimately nobody but you can decide which class will suit you best, so play around with any classes that seem interesting and decide what you like best.

Guardian is a tank class, which means your job is to keep the enemy hitting you instead of your weaker friends. You don't do much damage and you don't solo that fast. As tank, you'll generally be expected to be the one leading your group around dungeons so you'll have to learn the weay around the world. However, up at level 70 you're generally considered to be the best tank type for raids, so if that all interests you, guardian might be a good class for you. (Don't let that discourage you from trying other tank types though - they all tank for regular groups perfectly well, and can tank raids also; my guild actually uses a paladin or berserker more often since we don't have a guardian playing regularly.)

Swashbuckler and brigand are specialists in doing damage. If you want to be the one sneaking up behind the bad guy and stabbing him in the back for 5,000 damage ... then these might suit you well. Swashbucklers do a bit more damage, brigands have some nice abilities to debuff the enemy (that means, lowering some of his stats -- like making him more vulnerable to cold attacks, for example) so that you and others can hurt him more with that type of attacks. Both swashbucklers and brigands can use poison on their weapons to increase damage. Many of your attacks will be positional, meaning you can only use them from the side, back, front, or while you're sneaking, so you'll spend a lot of time running around. They're better at soloing than guardians though not generally rated among the best at it, but it's quite doable. You'll have to get used to using your 'cheap shot' ability to stun the guy so you can run around behind him for a backstab or two while he can't move. Both swashbucklers and brigands are generally welcome in groups and raids for their damage dealing abilities. As a scout you'll also want to get used to using your Tracking ability and letting your group know if you see any interesting looking named monsters up that might be worth killing.

I suggest you have a read over the "Frequently asked questions" thread that's near the top of this forum, in particular, the section where it outlines all the classes and what they do and how they differ from others. It might give you some ideas of the classes that suit what you want to do.

As mentioned, there's really no real difference between races so pick one you like the look of. The earlier comment about tanks and big classes is a good one though - your group may find it easier to SEE and follow you as a tank if you are a taller class. But, if you want to be a short class, you can always use an illusion form if you do need to be more visible.

Server wise there's lots of good servers, so as long as you've found one with a nice community, that's all that matters! Personally I've played on Antonia Bayle (a RP server) and Najena (where the Aussie time zone players lurk) and both are wonderful, but I know there are other great servers out there too. Once you find a nice guild to join you'll probably find you want to stick around whichever server that is on. Do take the time to shop around for guilds though, it's an important decision and joining a nice guild with a good sense of purpose and good leadership can make a big difference to your enjoyment of the game.

Good luck!
