[this is also posted in the zerker forum, but this may be a more proper location]

Hey guys,

A quick apology in advance for asking any questions that may be redutant or answered elsewhere. Im not completely new to EQ2 but my experience here is very limited seeing the complexity here seems much deeper than my previous game [wow]. I had orginally started playing wow and didn't care for it, wanted more etc and tried this game... loved it but my bro was heavily invested in WoW so I unfortunetly went back to join him. My experience here was limited to one profession [wizard] and the furthest I got was level 30 before switching back to wow.

I have tanked in wow with both a warrior and feral druid but my first impressions with the warrior classes here is that tanking is quite a bit different. My main also was not a tank, I was a 70 priest so even in wow the majority of my time was spent as a primary healer.

My first question is in regards to Leveling. For instance in WoW leveling specs are pretty well established. For instance for a priest whether you want to heal or dps when you reach end game the best leveling spec is shadow. Even specced strictly dps for leveling/grinding purposes you can heal just fine up until low level 60 instances. So for power gamers most spec the best soloing/grinding builds possible, level to cap and then respec especially seeing you can still perform most roles even if not specced for it, until end game/raiding instances. Even for warriors in wow leveling as 2h or dw dps spec is the way to go and tanking is still no problem regardless of spec until late in game, just keep a shield and/or tanking set of gear in bank. Is EQ2 similiar in aspects in regards to AAs [in comparison to wow talents] ? Is it best to spec/gear a certain way strictly for leveling and then revamp for end game, say post 60? Will tanking for groups in lower level instances still be achieveable... maybe just requiring a bit more skill? Some suggestions in this category would be greately appreciated.

I haven't started using my AAs simply because I'de like some feedback. Mostly would like to know if its best to work my way straight to my end game spec while leveling or should I wait till a certain level? TY and again sorry for anything labeling me a newb and/or lazy /search.

Thanks in Advance

Cahal, Barbarian Beserker: Mistmoore server

AA spec's generally aren't too big a deal, so in general the answer to your question is "How do you plan to play? Great! Read the aa descriptions and pick the ones that complement that."

Getting into specific aa setups for a zerk would be best handled on the zerk forums. Re-spec's are actually easy to do, and if you don't do them more than 1x a month, only cost 10 gold, so if you decide to try something and that it doesn't work out. . . not really a big deal to change it.

So far as I've seen on my toons, there really isn't a "leveling spec" vs an "end game spec" either. It's really just a matter of picking hwo you want to play, and if that changes. . re-spec to change with it. Otherwise, not too big a deal.

Choose the AA's you feel are most useful to you now. You get one respec for free, and after that you can respec once a month for 10 gold pieces (which isn't much when you reach lvl 70). Some AA lines are a little better for solo players, some are a little better for group players, and some are a little better for PvP, but there are usually no obvious choices, like "choose this if you want to be a good healer" or "choose this if you want to do DPS". Most AA lines contain both defensive and offensive elements. Like the previous poster said, they are mostly there to give your character... more character. The Specialised Training choices you get at lvl 14, 24, 34 and so on, where you choose a spell to upgrade to Master II, are pretty important. If you're going to group, always choose a taunt spell if you're a tank or a healing spell if you're a priest. You can respec this several times too. The other choices you get (racial traits, character traits) are not very important, but can also be respecced.

Even the typical 'best choice' doesn't always apply.

For example, on my warlock I'm going down the stamina tree. The normal one for magey types is the wisdom tree which can greatly increase their damage. But certain restrictions in that tree annoy me greatly so I picked something else that suits me better.

In the end, I don't think there are any abilities in the achievement lines in EQ2 that are make or break for a class. Some are really nice for the class to pick up, gives them abilities they normally wouldn't have, but if you choose another line your character will not be broken. Just different.
