So I finally got a second account to create alts so I can mentor down to them to do gray quests. I have created several new characters, and all can swim except for my Iksar Fury. I have swum all over the entire isle of refuge, and my swimming skill is still 5 out of 40. All of other characters got swimming skill increases every few seconds while swimming. My iksar won't skill up for anything. Ideas?

The froglok I started a couple weeks ago had the same problem, whether swimming below the surface, on the surface, whatever, skillups were incredibly rare. Safe fall was going incredibly slow as well. Soon as I hit level 50 or somewhere thereabout my skills started going up as fast as they used to: 50 swimming skillups from level 1-50, compared to 50 swimming skillups from level 50-54. Similarly with safe fall. I'm not sure what it is but skillups were definitely tweaked somehow. A couple people in chat channels have mentioned it as well.

The other half struggle. Some gain swimming under water. Others barely gain no matter where they swim. Please look into this SOE.

I was stuck at swimming too for what seemed like a month. I finally asked a guild mate who suggested I try swimming backwards. I gained right up to my max before logging out that night.

None of my characters have ever had trouble building Swimming up to 100ish or so. I haven't paid much attention to it after that. I've read you should always swim underwater, & it does seem to help, but I'm not convinced that's the exact issue.

Safefall, however -- as mentioned by others -- is a different story I actually got an increase yesterday; first one I've seen in weeks. I think it's gone up maybe 5 points in the last 4-5 months. I'm not one to spend hours running up to high places & jumping off them again, just to build the skill; that's not especially inspiring game play, IMO. OTOH, so far having a skill of 135/350 has been all I've ever needed, so maybe it's just not that big of a deal.

For swimming it helps alot to swim underwater. Also, the lower your skill is compared to the max, the harder it is to get skill ups...so it makes it easier if you keep you skill maxed every time you level...

For safe fall, bigger jumps means higher chance of skill ups. If you're not taking alot of damage, it's going to be very slow...

You'll fall, run into teleporter, fall, run into teleporter, fall...

Skill ups starting happening regularly. Strange - that was not necessary for a kerra bruiser or a ratonga dirge; they skilled up just fine swimming on top of the water. Anyway, I am in business - thanks for the suggestions.

That's one thing that EQII doesn't do that EQ I did, immediate racial skills. Remember 100 swim level 1 Iksars? Classic. And yes Safe fall skilling is horrendous, but then again, you can fly off a carpet over SS pretty far with say a 30 Safefall rating, and only take 1k dmg or so. I can only see that really affecting you, if you were engaged or pulling aggro. Now..EQ I..falling hurt like a sob, running over the hills in Kunark with a giant train, or across Velious eating your life away for seventy dmg a pop everytime you came down the other side of a hill..let alone a mountain.
