So you know, way back when I first played, occasionaly you would join a group and would hear a "yay! all set now we have a healer", I almost felt bad for dissapointing them!!! I always found it kinda funny in the lower levels, and I think people would confuse coercion with inquisiton (fair enough - similar!) However I was a little bit concerned to join two lvl 70 grps in the last 2 weeks where I was mistaken for a more priestly type! Anyone else found this end game?! Could it be that some people have just never grped with an evil chanter b4.....

It has been my experience that the vast majority of EQ2 players--and that includes folks at 70--are completely clueless about what a coercer can do. At best they think we're a buffbot utility class like a bard, and really have no idea how we can almost single-handedly carry a bad PUG that would otherwise wipe, or help a good group completely own a hard zone.

Hehe, not lately. Thought I have had to make macro's because there are level 70's that haven't grouped with a coercer before. Now in the old days I remember being asked things like 'Can you rez?' etc

I saw someone ask if Coercer's were healers in lvl 60-69 chat a while ago... and the funniest reply follow'd "Coercer's can do, what ever they tell you they can do."

I've been accused of exploiting when using Possession quite a few times...

I haven't been mistaken for a healer yet but have had a lot of misconceptions about my abilities. Have been turned down for not being dps. Guess they haven't ever seen a corpse candle in action with a master 1 domination.

I do have a defiler as well though and have tried to join groups looking for a healer as there last spot only to reply and get turned down saying they were looking for a healer. That one always throws me for a loop. And that has happened several times to me.

Being level 70 doesn't imply intelligence in fact with as easy as this game is to level and powerleveling etc there are many that do not have a clue. I always find it funny when someone makes an argument and downplays someone elses knowledge if they don't have a 70 character in it.

We may not heal, but we do prevent a lot of damage with our stuns, stifle, daze, and mezzes. Unless the mobs are immune to stun and stifle and daze (yes, I'm looking at YOU HoF and Unrest. . . . .) Just means the healer's gotta be more on his toes when the mob's immune is all.

Yeah.. I've never been mistaken for a healer, although I've been asked to replace a secondary healer from a group. Which is a role I definately think we can fill.

Zones like HoF and Unrest are few.. and we can still stun/stifle 99% of the crap in the zone, it's just the 3 or so named that don't allow it. Charm in those zones makes us DPS choices at that point anyways.

I've been invited into a group as utility for the most part. People will say "Great! I don't have to use my power regen poisons now!" or "Yay! We can chain pull!" or "Now the tank will hold aggro!". Only very rarely will they call me to replace a second healer, but some of them know...

Mostly it's those that are raid leaders or have a lot of experience with the class that know enough to consider a Coercer for replacing a 2nd healer. I've even seen some folks I know say "Looking for 2nd Healer or an Enchanter!" in channel.

And yeah.. Dirges bring respectable DPS and some fairly encompassing Debuffs, as well as rez, evac, etc... so there's a lot more to being just a buffbot. No class is really a buffbot in this game, but people still like to use that term, and sadly, some folks still think it's true.

I got the healer question once, somewhere in my late 30's. Really confused me at the time. Since then, though, I've learned that many people just have never encountered a coercer and know little about them. Given the rarity of the class (probably still the least played in the game) I guess it shouldn't be too surprising.

MY coercer was invited as a healer and then in same group a second later they got a Defiler as DPS.

I wouldn't want to raid without at least one Troub and Dirge, and while it wasn't obvious, that part of the comment was intended to be tongue in cheek--I give bard friends good-natured flak like this, and they give me flak about my fury's willingness to heal.
