I've been shuffling through here as a newbie coercer and seeing what the class is all about and such. And while I'm really loving it ingame, I'm not the world's best mathmatician... like... at all for any of the nitty gritty stuff that our raid leader likes to get down into.

I was wondering if there was a cap to the hate gain that my guardian can get if say we had... me, an assassin, and a dirge in the MT group? Or is there one over all if anyone knows?

Since I'm setting her up to be a raiding coercer I was just wondering if anyone had any pointers or tips for me either. Should I spec one way while leveling up and then another for raiding? Or is there really just about only one way to spec to be useful to your groups?

Thanks for your time everyone.

There are other threads about hate stacking and even a debate about what hate buffs/transfers actually do stack. Hate has always remained kinda hidden to players (as it should be imo). It's not like it's something that can be parsed. This has always been my understanding about what stacks...but mileage may vary:

Coercer and Dirge hate buffs (they allow the tank to gain more hate than normal) do stack.

Swashie and Assassin hate transfers (transfer a % of the hate gained by them to the tank) do not stack with each other.

Coercer/Dirge hate buffs do stack with Assassin/Swashie hate transfers.

So, max hate for a tank would be coercer, dirge, assassin/swashie.

As far as AA specs, there are a ton of threads about it. There are really a few different AA setups depending on your playstyle and personal preference. So, my advice would be to try a few out and see what fits.

Coercer / Dirge can max his over all hate gain by well over 50%, which is sometimes, but rarely, used in an MT group. M1 Coercer buff is 49% A3 Coercer Buff is 43% M2 Dirge is 42% M1 Dirge is 41% A3 Dirge is 37% (I think, or 38% but it's close) *EDIT* Hate "transfers" aren't included in this because they aren't actually "buffing" hate, where as they are just moving hate around. So it's considered a different "type" of buff. Thus, yes, the Coercer / Dirge hate "buffs" stack with the Assassin / Swash hate "transfers". (And technically because the hate is bring moved and "gained" by the tank with the amends or "transfer" the Coercer / Dirge %age buff is applied to the hate they are gaining from the move of the transfer. Thus is why it's crazy good to have a dump / amends AND a buffer.)

Please post any evidence of a limit on Hate buff percentage.

I have never seen a statement by a developer or any experiment by players that states or proves that there is any limit on hate buff percentage. Nor have I seen anything which proves that coercer/dirge stack.

There are lots of opinions on the forums. Please do not post your opinion as fact.

In the opinion of players (including raid leaders) coercer and dirge hate buffs stack and are not limited.

I seem to remember back in DoF having my hate transfer knocked off a tank when a swashie put theirs on, but that has been changed (or I'm not remembering it accurately).

I haven't tested it, but it seems to me that coercer and dirge hate buffs stack. It would be easy to test - have a tank with both buffs on autoattack a mob until he does a certain amount of damage then turn off autoattack. Have someone else autoattack until they pull aggro and see how much more damage they had to do than the tank. I suspect (with zero evidence) that it would cap at 100%, but that's just because that's what makes sense to me. I also suspect (with zero evidence) that the dirge and coercer buffs do not affect hate that is transferred, but only hate generated directly by the tank through damage, taunts, debuffs, etc.

Coercer and Dirge buffs DO stack. I have tested this thoroughly and can undeniably say that there is a big difference between just one of them hate buffing and both of them hate buffing.
