I recently upgraded my XP SP2 installation to Vista 32 (not a fresh install). My account that was Administrator was carried over to Vista32, but of course with UAC I don't have full access to my machine unless I ackowledge the UAC prompts.

When GU 33 hit (my first update since upgrading) I had a problem. Shortly after the update went live SOE apparently updated the XPTI.DAT file. This file lives in the EVERQUEST 2/MOZILLA/COMPONENTS folder. I noticed the patcher was loading the delta for this file, but I wasn't getting the PLAY button in the patcher. Instead it was greyed out and said UPDATING constantly.

Below this was a white 'Download' link, and clicking this simply reloaded the XPTI.DAT file delta again.

Now switching off UAC allowed this file to be updated, but I'm TRYING to be a good citizen and don't want to switch it off simply for this file. Besides I was curious why UAC wasn't prompting me for the file....

SOE updated the file again today so I did some experimenting. I found that the PERMISSIONS in the MOZILLA folder were set in a peculiar way - probably because of the upgrade.

First of all, my user account didn't have full permissions to the MOZILLA folder. I could Read and Execute, but not delete or Full control. Secondly the XPTI.DAT file and the COMPREG.DAT in the COMPONENTS sub-folder were set differently from all other files. SYSTEM and the Administrators group have full control, but my user account had NO ACCESS at all. It was simply therefore to add my account with full control over these two files... and VOILA! When I reran the patcher, it went smooth as butter.

So - my suggestion is to have the account you normally play EQ2 under to have full control of the files. (And this might work if there any other files elsewhere without access - I haven't looked.

I hope this helps some of you...

Safe Travels

Thoronve

This also works

first, locate the following files. LP_plugin.exe EQ2.exe EverQuest2.exe then for each one, right click them and then choose properties. from there you should see a button to "run as administrator" or something similar, i am not at my vista machine, so i cant remember exactly. in that window, look down it, and a little ways down, you will see a checkbox that does the same thing, but when checked, it runs each time the app is run and does not require you to do it each time it is run. also, there is a checkbox for the compatibility options. check that checkbox, and then make sure it is set to windows xp SP2 in the drop down just underneath it. it defaults to xp SP2, but i am just covering all the bases. then, if there is a button at the bottom of the window that says "apply" click it, then click ok. if there is no "apply" button, then just click ok. now, when you run from the shortcut on the desktop, you do not need to set it to run as admin every time you start it, and you should not have the LP_plugin error any longer either. also, it is a good idea to right click the station and EQ2 folders under sony in Program Files, and make sure the folder permissions for read-only is not checked. this will allow the patcher and the launcher to write patches to the folders if patches need to be done.

I run Vista and changing the user permissions to full control did the trick... i changed the permissions on the whole SONY folder to full control this way nothing gets missed.
