Can you get a surname from crafting? I've never tried it so I honestly dont know. My guess would be that its considered a title of sorts. Sony has always had a thing with not having a name that is a title. You cant make a character named "King ____". Granted, now they have titles you can get from city merchants (duke, count, etc) but they're a money sink so it flies. So, my guess would be they consider that a title. Your trying to make your character a "hero". Now, it could be that i'm way off. But I know SOE has a thing against titles in the proper name.

Well.. Here's the thing;

I play on a pvp sever, and the names on there....well you can almost pick anything cause thats just how pvp is, all over in any MMORPG i've ever played.

You are able to have a last name at lvl 20 crafting (alot of people lock toons at low lvl's for AA and have first and last name)

But, Heroine should be useable seeing as how i've seen MANY name's kinda like that...I'm gonna be upset if i cant use that.. there should be a way for us to see if a last name is useable before we work so hard on a toon...kinda sucks.

Its also possibly that theres a swear word checker in there and something that checks for other dubious words like drug names within the name you've put forward.

I seem to remember something about swearword checkers in email sending programs and it not letting words through such as '[I cannot control my vocabulary]' which is a placename because it contained certain words - so it may be something similar.

Edit: see it did it in the profantity checker in here as well, the place is called S-c-u-n-thorpe, but it wont let it through.

This includes references to drug substances or drug related paraphernalia. (e.g. Ecstacy, Cannibis)

11. Names containing titles within them, such as, but not limited to: The, Lord, Lady, Master, King, Knight, Sir, Father (e.g. Sirtallon, Lordeagle, Mothermaggy, Darksister).

It's worth seeing what response you get to your petition, it's possible a GM might agree to change your name to Heroine for you. If not though, I'm sure there are other good names you can think of that will be acceptable.

Other than being a homonym for an illegal drug, heroine is a title. You can't give yourself a title, you have to earn it.

Now a lot of people make it through the filters, but sooner or later they step on someone's toe and get their name petitioned. One thing I've noticed is that GMs respond to bad-name petitions very quickly.

On the front page of this site is an article on The Name Game. I suggest you read it.

Thanks for all your advice.

On PvP severs.... You rare come by "Arura Tir'nag" (yada yada) On PvP you have to think about what named you're getting roxxed by.. You've been killed bye " Sushie" for an exaple other then Arura looks alot cooler in the eyes of a pvp player for the most part. I'm not saying ALLLLLLL pvp'er's do that..just alot more people then norm. It's funny to see what people can come up with really.

As for the drug thing:

results for: heroine

-noun 1.a woman of distinguished courage or ability, admired for her brave deeds and noble qualities. 2.the principal female character in a story, play, film, etc.

I think i should have the name based off the first name. My first names not HookedON or Junkingshot.

if it's a title cool; the brat in me says..I dont care.

i never really get all uppy on most things and tend to stick up for this game a liitle more then i should seeing as how i lose uber points w/ people but this time, I dont think its right that if anything we are unable to seeee what last names we are able to get before we take a toon all the way to 20 just to find out the name you've wanted since noob island can't be used..

/lame

Second, Heroine IS A TITLE and you can't give yourself a Title.

As far as miss spelling it goes, intentanally trying to avoid the naming policy is a good way to, at the very least get your last name periminantly changed to Fluffikins.

My first names not HookedON or Junkingshot.

if it's a title cool; the brat in me says..I dont care.

Sadly I don't think there's any game yet that has a filter smart enough to approve (or not) your last name based on what your first name is. Clearly "Shootinup Heroine" would be a totally inappropriate name but the filter wouldn't be smart enough to understand why that's bad but "Francesca Heroine" might be OK. At the end of the day it's basically a dumb spellchecker. Like I said there MAY be a SMALL chance you could convince a GM to change your surname manually to Heroine once they see your first name isn't something like Shootinup, but since Heroine is also a title, it's a pretty long shot IMO. Unfortunate, but you can blame all the idiots who have already chosen names like Shootinup Heroine and caused these filters to be put there in the first place ...

If you wanna post your first name, maybe folks can come up with some other suggestions if you wanted. There's got to be some other options that sound good too, if the misspelling doesn't work.

My guess would be that "Heroine" is not allowed because "Hero of Maj'dul" is a title that one can get in game. One thing you *can* do is find out what "heroine" is in a few other languages. For example, in German and Dutch, "heroine" is Heldin, which would probably get through.

Again, thanks for the great advise!

Only thing is; I hate miss spelling names wrong heeh like Hero'ine or Herrine ... though if i GM ever desides to get a hold of me I would like to explan some things that i've explaned here. That is to say if a GM ever desideds to get a round to me. It's going on the 3ed day now... totally ridiculous and i am considering filing a customer complaint with HQ over the lack of in game customer services levl, they (for being SONY online [sony it self being one of the top co. in the world]) should really raise the bar, I'm highly disapointed and frankly i'm tired of defending them to others. Never have I had to wait this long and I have played EVERY mmorpg out there on the market, I was in alpha for DDO and in beta not only for eq2 but countless others and I repeat, NEVER have i had to wait this long for in game support...It's relaly very sad.

Anyway, The toons name is Fictional and she's in a guild called heros. (Fictonal Heroine to-me- just sounds awesome, and thats why i wanted it so badly) To me, content makes alot of the game but I like my games to be -very- pleasing to the eye imo.
