I'm returning to EQ2 after a 2-year absence during which I played WoW, and have gotten bored with it. And while EQ isn't maybe as intuitive and fast-moving as WoW is, I find it more peaceful and the community overall is certainly friendlier.

Having said that, I've some questions.

1. I prefer PvE, not so much RP, and am on the East Coast. Can anyone recommend a server that's fairly busy with a decent community? My highest char is on Kithicor (sp?) and is only 17 so I don't mind at all starting over if it's worth it, since I really don't know anybody on any server at all. For some reason I made my Necro on Vox and have no clue how that happend ... way to pay attention ... d'oh.

2. My favorite WoW class is/was by far the Hunter class ... pew pew with guns/bows and having a nice, reliable combat pet ... anything comparable in EQ2? Although the classes here seem so much more ... intricate, I guess you could say? My second fav was a Warlock, and then Rogue. I guess I like to just kill things very quickly ... self-heal ability would be a plus, but not required if it means the mob is going do go down twice as slow.

3. Coming from an ezmode game such as WoW ... what tips do other ex-WoW players have that y'all think might help me get along with EQ2 better?

4. Did they up the max characters you can have? I remember it used to be only 4 ... and now it's letting me create more for some reason. I did NOT get the Sony Station Mega Whatever account, just the regular EQ2 account.

Thanks!

Jonna pretty much nailed everything down for you. The thing i'd add is check out your classes forums. Also on said forums usually there'll be a sticky post that has a class ww (world wide) channel in it. You can join that channel and ask other people of the same class questions. Granted some channels are more used than others, but i'm always asking stuff I know in the assassin channel. For instance you join the assassin WW channel by typing. /join guk.assassin But, yeah, checkout your forums and try and get more information from the people that have done it before you.

I am inded an altoholic, and as such, the 6 limit pains me. But it's better than 4, ah well ...

Choices, choices ... I have a Berserker, Ranger, Conjurer ( from 2 years ago still) and am trying a Shadowknight currently. We'l l see how that pans out .

Thank you so much for your helpful answers!!

You can actually get 12 toons. If you setup you test server software. In you EQ2 folder is a folder for test server. In that folder is a readme file. Follow the instructions in that readme and you get another 6 toons on the test server. There is no application process. Just copy the files, create a shortcut and login.

Also, you can get a Station Pass which grants you 4 more toons I believe. It costs more money, $30/month now I believe. But you also get acess to multiple SoE games.

Another class you may want to think about is Monk as they have an emergancy heal(for like 25% of total health) and can avoid alot of damage while dealing lots of it.

3.
Thanks for the helpful hints!

I've actually decided to delete all but my main character (who is a Pally now I guess) and start over because I was so very lost when I logged in again. Didn't know where anything was anymore, etc. Since they were all lvl 13 or less, it's all good.

Currently going with a Conjurer, who I'm enjoying very much, and remember enjoying lots the last time I played one.

I might also go with a Fury and a Brigand (maybe) but not just yet.

Decided to give the Crafting/Tradeskill system a closer look this time around, which, albeit time consuming, is also very cool.

If you see Kriemhild running around on Kithicor, with sub-par gear, confused and acting like a noob, give me a holler. Haha. It's still so much less linear than WoW and maybe a bit choppier and seems more bogged down, but I like the more authentic, relaxed feel to the game and really feel like I can take my time exploring.

If you're feeling aimless and want some direction, maybe check out the solo questlines which will give that running around some purpose. I also recommend you install the EQ2map interface mod (it's free and SOE approved, click on Download link).
