Hi all, new to this game, wondering what are some strong choices for classes that can solo well. I was thinking a fury druid, but I also love casting - how about a warlock. I am not too partial and just looking for some guidance on solo classes, oh for good alignment.

Have a read of the FAQ post at the top of this forum: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=346645
All the classes can solo, so I'd say the MOST important thing is to pick a class that you're going to enjoy playing long-term. It may take you a few characters before you decide what one has skills that suit your playstyle (I know I went through at least half a dozen before I found one that just "clicked" and I was able to get past 30 or so). Think about what role you want to play in groups, when you group, what things annoy you, what things are important to you, what kind of role you might want to play in raids once you reach the high end, if indeed you want to raid.

Certainly, fury is a good soloing class and does some decent damage casting too. Warlocks and wizards are good soloers too, as are the pet classes (illusionist, conjuror, and necromancer, though necromancer is evil). Any of these would be a fine choice for you if you want to play a caster.

Warlocks are great soloers as long as you can get a root on the mob. I take out ^^^ heroics all the time including nameds. just get your nukes and AOE's to adept 3 or master and you will be able to solo groups or heroics easy. That said all classes are good soloers but some classes take longer than others. Like Didi said play something you like, you will be happier in the long run.

The advice about choosing a role you like is the best. My original main character was a berserker. I loved the aspect of doing lots of damage with up-close melee attacks, and wearing spiky, shiny armor and looking all cool! I hated being asked to groups only to tank as a meat-shield. So I switched my main at the same time I switched servers, and raised my little ratonga warlock. I had never considered being a ratonga, although the idea of a mage appealed to me. As soon as I tried it out, though, I knew it was the right combination for me. Ratongas have a unique, fun, quirky outlook and history, and warlocks are group-centric damage dealers. So it was a perfect fit. No more meatshield! hehe That being said, there are some classes that you might find more appealing if you plan to spend a lot of time playing alone. Summoners are always a good choice. If you've played WoW, the summoners in EQ2 are close to the warlocks of WoW. Conjurors come from Qeynos (Q's), the good guys, and Necros from Freeport (Freeps, hehe). Monks and Bruisers also make decent soloers, as do Furies and Illusionists. Coercers are a mixed bag - if you learn to play them well they can be one of the best solo classes in the game - but they are a bit trickier to play than Illusionists or summoners becuase their pets are charmed as opposed to summoned, and so can periodically break and attack you. But the potential with a coercer is that you can get some really powerful charmed pets. So, there it is.

Coercers can solo without a pet too, but it's a lot slower. That said, with the right pet it's almost like cheating. . . Seriously. . 5% root and a good nuker pet, and it's just "root, let pet nuke, watch mob die, repeat." Kinda boring to do it that way, though. It gets exciting when you lose charm just after the pet nukes and the root actually breaks, plus an add gets on you at the same time. . . but you can still pull that out too.

It's not easy to learn though, and yes, you are going to die a LOT if you are a soloing coercer. My coercer's kill vs death ration is only something like 30. Pathetically low. But. . . lots of fun to play too, and well loved on raids. Even at level 67 I'm still finding a lot of people don't really know how to play in a group with one though. But that's becuz they're a pretty rare breed, and they actually do solo so well that a lot of people don't group much anyway. . .

Can't go wrong with a Necromancer. I've been playing off and on for about 1.5 years now and my Necro has reached level 60 -- her ability to solo is amazing with essentially zero downtime and Necro's are always welcome in a group.

Necros always win, and we have cool hats.
