View Full Version : This spell haste doesn't add up

As most of you I have eight ranks of Facile Grace to give me 14.4% spell haste

If we apply this haste to my Call of Qeynos ability (30.0 cast base) I end up with this:

Yesterday I acquired six pieces of Nem Anhk armour to give me 33% cast time reduction

Yet, when I look at Call of Qeynos, it does not display the 47.4% bonus which would've been expected, nor the 43.6% if one was applied after the other.

In fact this one displays a little less than 33% reduction. I can live with the .35 seconds to attribute to rounding, 1/3 maths, and all that. But where did my extra 14.4% go?

I have not been able to visit an Achievement council to remove my Facile Grace to see if tha would make a difference, and I'd rather not spend the 10g on it right now either. But right now it seems that Nem Ankh just overwrites Facile Grace rather than stacking with it. Can anyone who doesn't have Facile Grace comment on this?

Or is this another example of EQ2 normalising far too much for its own good? Or can someone better at maths than me comment?

Experiment number two: Call of Qeynos using Nem Anhk bonus, Facile Grace and Divine Recovery: 20.35s Call of Qeynos using Facile Grace and Divine Recovery: 18.something seconds Divine Recovery is supposed to increase speed by 50%. It got cancelled out by the Nem Anhk armour, which is inferior. Hypothesis: Nem Anhk armor and no Facile Grace will also result in 20.35 cast time. I've still not been available to test this. Of course even with Divine Recovery which was supposed to be 50% didn't manage to reduce it to 15s, which the description says it should. Something's afoot with these effects.

It works fine if you apply the same math that Traumatic Swipe and Infective Bites uses on recast timers. You take your 30s cast and apply a 14.4% haste: 30 / (1 + 0.144) = 26.223776 (Exactly what your screenshot shows) You further apply a 33% haste to the recast before previous calculations: 30 / (1 + 0.144 + 0.33) = 20.352781 (Exactly what your screenshot shows) When the correct math is applied, it seems to be working as intended. Judging from the second post there seems the be a large misconception on how haste works. 50% spell haste will never bring a 30s spell to 15s. Nor will (14.4 + 33) 47.4% haste bring a 30s spell down to 15.78s. As in with melee haste, which I guess you don't understand either or you would have tried it, using 100% haste does not mean zero delay. 100% haste means double the rate, not infinite rate. 125% haste is possible in this game for melee... that of course means 225% rate, not 1.25*Infinity. There also appeared to be a cap on spell haste, though I don't know what. Stacking all three effects using the math would bring: 30 / (1 + 0.144 + 0.33 + 0.5) = 15.197568 But you said it stopped going down around 18 something?

Of course, that makes sense I will say I should've known better, having done that math bunches of times calculating melee haste back in EQ but would I realise the same here applied to spells, noooooo... As for my second post, I found out why I reported Facile Grace and Divine Recovery (14.4 + 50) faster than Nem Anhk, Facile Grace and Divine Recovery (14.4 + 33 + 50): The tooltip takes a couple of seconds to update with the new casting time.

In the one test I did, since Divine Recovery only lasts 24 seconds, I rushed along to try all the different combinations before it ran out. Later I repeated the experiment without rushing and all three did in fact bring Call of Qeynos to 15.2 seconds - just I had to wait a couple of seconds for the tooltip to update. Is my face red or what. Call of Qeynos at 15.2 is what we'd expect of 97.4% haste.

Aditu, I appreciate your post if for nothing else than an extremely clear explanation on how the math works. This is useful for all casters.
