hey all, after a long time of playing WoW, i've decided to move on to another MMO. So, i chose EQ2. so, i need help choosing a class. i'd like to either be a powerful healer, or a caster that does high dps. since there are 24 classes to choose from, i have many healer and caster classes to choose from. i just need to figure out which one i should play im leaning more towards a caster/dps class, but i have no clue which class to choose. which caster/dps classes are usually needed most in groups or raids? which are more played that others? suggest any other classes that you enjoy playing or think are fun to play for beginning players. also, any suggestions on which server to play on? -Mikel

The High DPS mage classes are Wizard, Warlock, Conjuror, and Necromancer. Wizards do massive single target damage and have some pretty nice AOEs as well. Warlocks have massive AOE damage. Conjurors are pet classes. A lot of our damage comes from our pets. We have some very nice AOEs as well. Necromancers are also a pet class. I would go into more detail, but for some reason on my computer it wont let me press enter on these forums.. And the more I type the harder it gets to read, so sorry.. lol

Have a read over the frequently asked questions post stickied at the top of this forum; it's got a brief overview of all the classes and what they do, and you'll be able to compare them more easily.

Cowmable listed the 4 heavy dps casters, of those, I'd say warlocks seem a bit less common on raids since they're AoE specialists, and raids aren't generally AoE heavy. But of course, achievement choice can customize a warlock to be better at single target damage, and outstanding player skill and knowledge can make any class desirable on a raid.

Of the healers, fury is definitely the best damage dealer (some would say the ONLY damage dealer, though again, achievement choices can improve the dps of some of the others). All the healer classes are good healers and would be desirable on raids, Fury is a very popular choice at the moment however due to the combination of good DPS + the ability to port (which is shared with wardens).

The MOST desirable classes for raiding in my observation are usually the bards (dirge, troubadour) and the enchanters (coercer, illusionist) plus any kind of healer. But your mileage may vary depending on your server and what other players around on it. DPS is desirable too of course, but there are lots of classes that do DPS so there's a bit more competition there.

As for the server, again, read the frequently asked questions post and you'll find more information there on servers and the differences between them.

Good luck and welcome to EQ2!

I rolled a warden a little while ago and right now i'm level 5. it's fun so far. i have a few damage spells and a few HoT spells. can somone give me a some-what detailed description of the warden class? i'd just like to know what it will be like as I level and what will be expected of me in groups or raids.
