Apprentice I - given when you earn the level for the ability (except in the cases of specific 'fun' spells, and those associated with certain X-packs and A-packs, by the time those matter, you'll have learned about them unless you play in a bubble)

Apprentice II - sold by the class trainers in each of the various cities (and on the top of the tower in the newbie island even)

Apprentice III - made by players who craft, if they suck. (App III is pretty much a 'failed' attempt at App IV)

Apprentice IV - Made by players who craft that know what they are doing

Adept I - Chest loot from mobs, pretty much any mobs. Adept's of a level relevant to the mob level is what they can drop.

Adept III - Player made, using a RARE ingredient.

Master I - Chest loot from the better quality chests, otherwise same rules as Adept I (though much more rare unless grouping/raiding and taking on appropriate challenges, and even then, not the quickest thing in the world to get)

Master II - Selected by the player from a list every x number of levels. (These you basically get automatically as you level up. When you've reached a level where you earn one, you get a choice, usually of 4 combat arts/spells, and the one you chose is upgraded to Master II.

For player crafted, the following professions are involved:

Alchemists make all fighter App IV and Adept III's (monk, bruiser, SK, paladin, guardian, berserker)

Sages make all mage and priest App IV and Adept III's (coercer, enchanter, wizard, warlock, necromancer, conjuror, mystic, templar, inquisitor, defiler, fury, warden)

Jewelers make all Scout App IV and Adept III's (ranger, dirge, troubador, assassin, brigand, swashbuck ler)

For Adept III's a rare harvested ingredient is needed as such:

Scouts and fighter classes use the rare loam for the tier (I think, i actually can't recall for sure what scouts use, but pretty sure it's loam)

Mage classes use the rare precious metal for the tier

Priest classes use the rare gem stone for the tier

EQ2 is designed to discourage specific "camp-like behaviour" by it's players. The reason you can't find a site that says "kill mob x for drop y" is because for the most sought after things (such as masters I's) it's mostly determined by mob level and difficulty.

FYI -- to get a RARE ingredient for spells you have to harvest. Go out to the lowbie zones or the isle and get your mining, harvesting, foresting, trapping and fishing up to 20. Then go out to CL and get them up to 90.

When you do this you'll find two types of rares:

1) In cl (doesn't exist in the lowbie zones) you'll find GLOWING materials. (Glowing flower, glowing stone, glowing tooth) This is not truly a "rare" item, it's uncommon to get one. They're all equal to each other, and are used when making any IMBUED craft (such as imbued chest piece which will proc a heal a certain % of the time).

2) You'll find ACTUAL rares including (i'll give cl examples): pelts (cured), hard metal (black iron), soft metal (silver), gems (rough coral), roots (sisal), wood (severed bone) and loams (alkaline i think).

Loams : Fighter/scout adept spells

Pelts : leather armor, thrown weapons, belts, and in some cases quivers and bags (if you want to waste it)

hard metal: chain or plate armor, weapons, or a symbol (boost item for ranged slot for casters)

Soft metal: str/agi jewelery, sage spells

gems: wis/int jewelery, priest spells

Roots: cloth armor, hex dolls (GET THESE NO MATTER YOUR CLASS), necklaces in some tiers

wood : bows, wood shields, wands, and some other weapons

hope this helps.. harvest away!!

If you are looking for where specific Master I and IIs drop, the best place to start looking would probably be at http://eq2.allakhazam.com

Unfortunately you can't change/reset it yet. Although I hope something is on the cards for the future.
