The last two times i've logged in my character has not been where I camped him.

1) First time I noticed it was yesterday at lunch. I logged in and was in the Ruins. Why would I take my 70 bruiser to a newbie zone?? I thought maybe it was a glitch, or maybe I just happened upon the ruins for some reason...I dont know really, I was just trying to justify the whole thing in my head

I went about my business at this point, i only had about 40 min to play because of it being my lunch hour... I went to everfrost to help a guildy camp the goblins on the isle for Eye of Power... as luck had it he spawned just as I should have been leaving to go back to work, so i killed him with the guildy ASAP and hastily camped out right on the frozen island...

2) Jump ahead a few hours, i just get home from work and go to log back in and expect to see myself in Everfrost...but... I was in big bend. This is extremely odd as I don't own housing there, and my bind point is stonestair byway... Why would i EVER go to big bend?? This is when I took #1 seriously. I asked the guild for advice. One guildy said he saw me online in the friends list, but not in the guild list. He said he tryed to talk to me but there was no responce.

I changed my password at this point.... i never told anyone it in the first place.

So im just wondering if anyone else had any experiences like this... It is important to note that nothing was missing...(atleast nothing i could notice) from my invintory. I didn't have alot of time to check my other chars out, but i'm going to do that first thing after work today.

You had a petition running on a issue? Its possible a GM "borrowed" your toon, but did a crap job at setting it back to how it was prior to when he borrowed it.

No open petitions at all. I would hope sony would notify me of any "use" of my account on their part. I would consider it a violation of trust if Sony was behind this without prior notification...im hoping this is not the case.

trust me from personal experience, the only thing SOE is going to do, should you file an official petition is accuse YOU of giving out your password (regardless of if you did or not) then suspend your account for 1 week while "they look into it".

This happened to me in EQ1. I logged in one day and found my dark elf camped out in the middle of Felwithe castle. I was butt naked (every piece of gear, item and bag was deleted) and i had 2 stacks of Muffins and Milk on me. Muffins and Milk?? really.... Felwithe Castle.?? really.... so i petitioned about it because i wanted my gear back. What ensued was a tornado of questions from THREE different GM's (that's more then was ever seen on VZ at one time by anyone). My guildmates came to Felwithe because they didn't believe that there were even 3 Gm's employed by SOE. All were accusing me of giving out my password. Each asked me the same questions different ways hoping i would some how answer wrong and they would "catch me". Because it is IMPOSSIBLE to get someone else's password by means other than giving it out. Of course, the other 2 dozen or so accounts that were having the exact same thing happen didn't prove anything contrary to that fact either. Nope. No way related what-so-ever. nope nope.

In the end i got my gear restored but was banned for 7 days while the "staff checked into it". Your best course of action is as you have already done, change your password.

Now if you were being sarcastic it is more likely someone you gave your password to someone who logged you on. So i wouldn't be offended if you asked. The next thing they would do is track what transactions occured in the time in question and then investigate what those people did during that time. In the end it could lead into a banning of accounts associated with that person. Which is why it needs to be stressed that you didn't just give your password to someone and then get [Removed for Content] at them and try to screw that person by implicating they stole your info.

I had my Paypal account abused a few months ago to the tune of about $800, even though I'd never given my Paypal account info out. Of course, my Paypal account had the same username and password that I used on my email, at home, for EQ2, for every single web forum out there, for just about everything. What can I say, I'm lazy. If you're really worried about someone logging in your EQ2 account and running around, you might want to look at other places where you use the same username and password, and make sure you don't change your password to the same thing you use elsewhere. You also might want to run a few malware scans to make sure there's no keyloggers or something installed.
just change passwords and format =)

If nothing was missing from the account such as plat, resources, etc. Then I wouldn't worry about security. If somebody is going to take the risk of committing an illegal activity such as hijacking your account; I doubt it was for entertainment purposes. Sounds like a camping bug or more likely, the zone you logged out of went down temporarily, thus displacing you. This has happened to me once or twice. Disconcerting to say the least. But, considering the 6 rough opals and 4 corals sitting in my pouch remained present.. an account hack never even crossed my mind.

Here is the general rule of thumb you should follow for passwords that will leave you safe.

Bunk sites like forums and other odds and ends you use one password.

Anything to do with sales sites or game accounts etc, you use a different password.

Banking items (bank, paypal, credit card, etc..) gets it's own password as well.

3 passwords is easy to remember and very secure as the only types of sites ever affected by hacking and theft of a password from a system would be in the same container and you know which password to switch out.

it is the bug.

i had log out in DoF/KoS, and find my self in front of North Antonica gate, and i got message saying those zones are unavailable and "account in error" (meaning that is those expansions and adventure packs are lock out), happen twice. it cleared when you relog from fresh load, it is something happen at launch page get glitchey.

i would say, lot of loggers trying to get on the game same time, creating some kind of bottleneck feedback which may read accounts and make errors in program during data stream or scan incorrectly.

if someone said and claim that your character not responding or refused to hail back and noticed change of zones by looking at guild box "u" key, then there maybe something wrong, and then log out mysteriously. hmmm, scary.

Nothing was ever found beyond the person's three initials and place of residency i was given. So the whole suspension and "looking into it" was merely their way of dumping the blame on me and moving on. Sure i got my gear back thankfully but it was still bs none-the-less since i lost the 7 days of play that i was still responsibile for paying for. Was just a chittee situation which i ended up being lubelessly bent over a barrel for something i didnt do.

I was at a Freethinker's raid one night. I crashed, and when I logged back in, I was in Commonlands, at the safe point near West Freeport gate. How'd I get there?? It's a mystery that was never solved. (my bind point was in Big Bend, so that couldnt have had anything to do with it).

But what was worse - my zone lockout timer was already set so I couldnt get back in there.

This was about a year ago but my character Omnipax once failed to log off when I did. My guildies reported that he was on the whole day. In fact, when I logged in as Mantell (on the same account), Omnipax was still on and reporting that he was in Graystone Yard, though he couldn't be seen.

When I logged out Mantell and logged in Omnipax he was in Antonica in front of the North Qeynos gate. Which is funny because he had never been to Antonica, he was level 4 and hadn't even done the Citizenship quests so he couldn't go back in through the NQ gate or gate back to town. A harrowing run followed.

Isn't it obvious? Its the alien abductors hard at work. Even in Norrath.

My sister was abducted last month. When she got back she was butt naked, had a dogs tail, a pigs ear and spoke fluent japanese. Its bizarre I tell you, bizarre.....

I've found that if the zone server crashes it may be that, when you next log in, you'll be in Ant/Commons. But Big Bend?
Korpo wrote:
So it's bad to just use "swordfish" everywhere?
Yes that is a pretty bad idea. I would suggest using the password 01234. A lot more secure then swordfish.

As a senior guide in EQ1 I saw many times when someone would claim their credentials had been stolen and SOE would give them the ninth degree as if they were prisoners of war or something. Yes, many people DID sell their account and there were those who sold it and then called SOE to get it back, that caused all of that mess in EQ1...SOE was heavyhanded back then. Maybe nothing has changed...I wouldn't go asking SOE questions about moved toons unless things start missing...
