I just recently picked up EQ2, and started a SK. Im having a difficult time playing it at lvl 13, even killing same lvl cons comes as a challenge, dieing often. Maybe its the gear, but I can't afford any better. Is there a better suited class for new players to learn the game with or can anyone give me any ideas why Im having such a hard time? Any info muchly appreciated.

The monk or bruiser have always been a solo friendly class. I remember my brother didnt wanna play a ranger because he cloulnt get the hang of positioning himself, so I told him to make a Monk. Good damage and avoidance, he was able to pick up that class easily. I also remember my first class was a monk, had no money was playing with bought gear from merchants and ocational quested and dropped, and I remember being pretty solid. But that was a while ago, not sure if they still stand strong.

Oh and make sure your not fighting even con mons who are heroic, with 1-3 arraws above their name. They are ment for more than one person will usually wipe the floor with you.

Depends on what you'd like to learn about the game. I do, however, suggest that you don't start with a tank or healer if you plan on grouping a lot. People tend not to like it when you kill them multiple times . I'd reccomend a pet class or caster class, something where you can stay out of the way, and focus on what other players are doing too. But, be sure to watch your aggro if you're a caster.

I'd recommend a pet class too if for no other reason than your money situation - you'll be a lot less gear dependent than your SK. Upgrade your pet to at least Apprentice IV (a sage can make this for you or you can find it on the broker) and then upgrade the rest of your spells/gear as you can afford it.

If you happen to be on Mistmoore server and want to continue your SK, send Skobi a tell and I'd be glad to help you with gear.

I don't know about the tank class depends on you really. My bro played a Tank as his only char in city of heroes. If just fit his personality and he did an amazing job and was well known for it, until they nerfed tanks into oblivion so that they couldn't tank anymore that is... gotta love game designers sometimes.

Personally, I have always had good luck with one of the scout classes, especially swashbuckler or brigand. What it really does come down to though, is play style. If you have having trouble with a particular class, my best suggestion is to just make another character, of a different class that seems interesting, and see how you do with that. Wash, rinse and repeat until you find something that fits you well.

It really is a matter of testing out classes until you find one that fits you. My 1st ever toon was a scout that I was taking on the path to become an assassin. I learned the soloing techniques, the "stun/backstab" dance, and all of that, but it never really "did it" for me.

I made a fighter and took it on the path to SK. This was more straightforward "bash mob until it's dead or you are" and was a bit more suited to me. I played it for a while, but then tried more classes. Tons more. I don't recall all of them. People told me how amazing monks are, so I made one. Still have it on my roster, but it's my lowest level toon. It;s okay, I suppose, but not really my thing either. Made a dwarf cleric and even went through the betrayal (back when it was actually hard. . .) then deleted it at level 17 becuz that just wasn't my style either.

Eventually though, I found the class that "clicked" for me. I started a priest, and made it a shaman. After I got my wards (in spite of this being back when they were horribly, horribly broken) it was all over. I was finally "evercracked."

Since then I've also discovered fury, necromancer, coercer, warlock, and dirge that I absolutely love to play, and I even re-created the dorf inquisitor, though admittedly he's now a she and a high elf to boot.

If you asked me which of them I think was easiest to learn. . . I'd say the monk probably was. Very very straightfoward -- just hit it until it drops or you do, and if things get rough, you can Feign Death to get a "free reset" (most of the time, anyway). The necromancer was pretty easy too, since the pet does a lot of your work for you.

I'd say hardest to learn was the coercer. That said, once I learned coercer, all the other classes felt a lot easier by comparison, so take that for what you will.
