As my girlfriend and I did with World of Warcraft we would like to team up and go as high as we can while always grouping together. We would like your though about which class combo we could take in order to have a good balanced group together. With 9 classes that was easy to choose from but 24 is another story, so your experience is welcome here.thanks

First off, welcome to Norrath! I am sure plenty of people will chime in to this thread. Healer/tank combination can't go wrong as you have a ready made group right there. Picking the specific healer tank, is another story. Some questions to ask are what type of toons do you want to play, how quickly to you want to kill things, etc. Personally, I leveled up with another healer, fury/defiler combo that worked out really well. Healers also pair well with many other classes, my fury went well with casters or scouts as the scout could tank in a pinch or the coercer could keep the mob stunned enough for me to tank it. Two casters can work with one or both keeping the mob stunned and or rooted so damage from afar is possible. Take a look at the class specific forums if you would like to get an idea of what is out there. The most important thing is to pick something both of you enjoy, or it will seem more like a chore, then a game Welcome again and good luck!

The first duo that most people will think of is tank/healer, but it's definitely not necessary and you shouldn't feel obliged at all to pick those classes if you think you'll enjoy others more. For example, my boyfriend and I often play together. He likes playing tanks, but I detest being a healer (which also means, I am a very BAD healer!) and I'm not too keen on tanking. We have tried, and had lots of success, playing monk/wizard, bruiser/illusionist, and the best combo we've found so far is bruiser/dirge. With bruiser/dirge we both have some healing ability, dirges have fabulous buffs and debuffs that work really well with the bruiser's abilities, and lots of utilities between us - he gets feign death, I get rez and evac, and of course I'm a built-in run speed buff and power regen battery. Two pet classes (conjuror, necromancer, illusionist, and kinda coercer if they use charm) are very powerful as a duo also since they're really a foursome. Illusionists and coercers can even the odds with their mez spells which allows any duo to take on more challenging things. If one of you DOES want to be a healer, the other still doesn't have to be a tank. Some of the scouts can fill in for tanks very well, so you could try something like a swashbuckler with a healer instead of a full tank. A pet class with a healer works well too as the pet becomes the tank. One thing to consider is what you expect your play style to be. If you'll be looking into raiding once you get to your 60s you might also want to consider what classes are more desirable for raiding guilds. Healers are always welcome of course, and the utility classes (dirge, troubadour, illusionist, coercer) always seem to be in demand. Tanks on the other hand are generally not so needed, since you really only need one or two per raid, so joining an established raiding guild as a tank can be more challenging. DPS classes in general are always handy though they rarely seem to be as in demand as the utility classes. Personally, I have a wizard, illusionist, and dirge all level 70. In order of being wanted on raids, dirge is FAR and away the winner, then illusionist, then wizard least of all. When you think about it, athough there's nothing wrong with wizards, there's 8 pure dps classes that can fill her spot, so she's never essential to a raid. Mezzing is rarely required on a raid, so the illusionist's main skill is more useful in groups, and even if mezzing is needed a coercer can fill in there. But there's NO other class that can fill a dirge's spot - everybody fights over who gets me (except the pure caster groups, who fight over the troubadours and coercers). As a dirge I felt a bit unloved till I got into my 40s, but since then, the higher in level I've got the more overjoyed any group or raid seems to be to get me. Anyway, the point is, think about what you want to end up doing as you level up, and you may want to keep that in mind while choosing your classes. At the end of the day, you can SOLO any class in EQ2 to 70 if you really want to. It gets a bit slower post 55 or so but I soloed my dirge into her 50s fast enough, and that's not known as a particularly great solo class. I met a wizard yesterday who'd soloed to 68. So ANY two classes that you pick WILL be able to level up together even if you can't find anyone else to join you ... pick the ones you enjoy most, and that suit your play style best!

As have been previously said, any dou will work, it all depends on what you like to play. For instance, me and a buddy toyed around a bit with a necro and warlock. We were surprised how well that duo did stuff. Both have roots with a fear comonent, so if both roots break at the same time (they do more often than you'd think) the mob spends the next few seconds feared, giving ample time fo both of you to reroot. Also, the necro brings a bit of ghetto heals, a rez and some power regen. Both of them have insane dps, and burn down mobs in mere seconds. If its a caster mob, you can always go the safe route and pull out the tank pet and have it tank (But you'll both have to pace your dps to pull this one off. ) Two healers can deal with stuff surprisingly well as well. Pick a fury and inquisitor, let the inqy tank, and you have pretty much a tank/healer combo, but using two healers instead. Quite interresting. So, tell us what you like to play, and we'll get back to you.

Berserker and Coercer

Best 2 Box I have done in 3 years. I am having a lot of fun with this combo. I had been doing the Berserker and Defiler combo for a while now and it's a good mix but the Zerker and Coercer combo is by far not just the best to me, but the funnest. Lot's of fun! I highly recommend this combo if you ever get a chance to test them out.

peace

I'll say it again, just in-case it didn't get said enough above.

Any duo that is fun for you and your girl will work. Go for the fun factor rather than the efficiency factor. Unless efficiency is fun for you.

I've seen all sorts of duo's running around. Sordid duo's, mage duo's, tank/healer, scout/mage, scout/healer ... and on and on. The game is not perfectly balanced. But the classes are not balanced in a see-saw fashion, it's more like rock-scissors-paper but with 24 steps.

In other words, not matter which classes you pick you will each have something to counter the other's minuses. Even if you pick the same class because the classes are so dynamic via the achievement trees.

Swashbuckler and Fury can be a lot of fun, and effective too. My personal favorite at the moment is a Dirge and Inquisitor, Inquisitor aa's going towards making him a melee cleric. Part of the fun for me is working with less conventional combos, and whats fun for you is all that matters.
