View Full Version : Here's a suggestion: How about an option to let the chestpiece decide armor appearance?

First off, I'd like to say that vests for mages suck. Why do you keep putting in these horrible vests on high end gear for mages, that only will make people's toons look like a [Removed for Content] mismatched circus clowns? Mages should wear robes in my opinion... but whatever. And then all the other classes, who have to look like clowns too. So, how about an option to let the chestpiece decide the rest of the armor appearance? So that if you're wearing the chestpiece of a set, it will look like you're wearing the whole set and not just a piece of this and a piece of that.  Monks gi's does that already, so they don't have to worry about mismatched hell. Mages' robes does it to some degree, but everyone who has to wear a normal chestpiece (like [Removed for Content] vests for mages) are stuck with different styles and color clashing all over the place... We already have options to hide cloaks, helmets etc... why not an option to hide mismatched armor pieces? Would be awesome. Ok, that's all.

I could go for something similar to this.  The way I would do it, is to have the option to have the chest piece determine only the color of the other armor pieces, with the other pieces keeping their original model and skin.

<p>The reason I personally dislike the idea of chest deciding the rest? If you get a crappy-looking chest then EVERYTHING looks crappy.</p><p>Seriously, the appearance of armor... and moreso than armor, WEAPONS... needs to be stepped up in a big way before anything else is done.</p><p>'Nuff said.</p>

If there is an <b>option</b> to make the chestpiece decide your appearance, it means you <i>dont have to use if you don't want to. </i><img src="/smilies/2786c5c8e1a8be796fb2f726cca5a0fe.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

It would mess up everything in pvp! Someone could put on raid armor, then hide it with a cloth chest peiece! (Maybe the helmet should decide thats hideable <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />) Yay for fooling people into thinking you arent in raid armor!

Bruisers, monks and anyone who wears a robe can already do it, so would it really make such a huge difference? Personally I pay very little attention to what kind of armor people are wearing when I'm out hunting, I just try to kill them. Besides - the guildtag will usually tell you who's likely to be in raiding gear and who's not. Oh, and the cloth chestpiece-trick.... anyone who wants to do that can already do it, just wear a robe and you'll look like a squishy little mage. I did that too sometimes at lower levels, but when you get to the higher tiers, it has little value since most of the people you fight will soon learn who you are and what class you belong to.

End of story.

<p>Yeah... I dunno why there's arguments against this really.</p><p>They are more likely to add something to the game that they already have a mechanic in use for (take a look at Brawler Gi's, they replace all or most body parts with a specific graphic), than to completely overhaul the graphic system.</p><p>Would be a nice option until they fix the models anyways, and shouldn't be too hard to code for select pieces out there (hopefully some crafted ones!!!).</p>

Yeah, my current "clown suit" of mismatched armor is a bit rediculous.  However, there is NO "set" for most of the gear I have.  I.E. there is no Leg, shoulder, boot, glove or helm for the two different Chest pieces I have.  No matter what that will be mis matched.  I do like the way Robes work and how most "Gi" work for Monk/Bruiser though.  There really should be a full suit graphic that is attached to the "chest" armor and each person can select the option to display default or display the "suit" graphic.

I agree with this, whole heartedly!  But let us take it a couple steps further, allow us to decide whether the chest, shoulders or legs determine the looks.

Nice idea but i think allowing you to turn the vest in to a robe or vise versa might be an alternate option which will achieve a similar effect.

I like the idea, as any Banana Paladin would, but I can't think of a way to rationalize it. I guess the Gi isn't really realistic by covering up everything. I guess not everything has to make sense.
