Hello my fellow Rangers. I have just recently returned after having been gone from the game for over 9 months. I will say it feels good to be back

I need your help in getting my Ranger back on track. I am lvl 70 but my gear is mostly tier 6, with a couple of tier 7 items. The thing I am concerned about is that my dps may be below what most lvl70 Rangers are doing now and I feel like I'm not worth a group spot yet

Things I don't know about , Deity, should I have one ? What kind of gear should I look for and where should I get it. What quests should I try to do , for gear and such ? What kind of potions and poisons are we useing these days ? and any other new items ? and how different are the weapon ratings now ? and what should I look for ?

The way Rangers should fight and all I'll have to learn all over again but any advise would be helpful. I know I am asking alot of questions, but I really have been gone for a long time and I really feel like I'm a century behind

Thanks for any help.

Well, learn to find where the "sweet spot" is. Put ranged auto attack on your hotbars - use it ALOT. If your a woodworker - make your own ammo, if not buy it.. Its 3s per arrow on my server. Second people say wait on auto attack.. DONT!!!! Spam your CA's, if you have 50 aa's and have gone down the agil/int lines start off with intoxication before the fight.. Open with mortal reminder - ranged auto attack - Focus aim - Spam your CA's. Next, time your auto attack with your ranged CA's.. This means you use 2-3 melee CA's - use pointblank shot/snaring shot, use 2-3 more melee CA's use one of these abilities again.. If your still in the process of deciding what lines to go down - go down the agil line and get poise first. This is paramount to all other aa's. It is going to be your biggest dps boost. Remember, its not about getting the top parse instantly - your going to have to work your way up there day by day. The people who reach 2k+ dps a fight are the people that are playing nonstop - nearly fully mastered - and with a 90+ DR bow to start with.. Just a nice little bit of info though - its very easy to maintain 3k dps once you start getting the right equipment on single target mobs.

DEFINITELY do the Rain Caller HQ. The bow is well worth the effort if you don't have a better one already. I'd say it is better then any bow beneath Bazkul. Much better then wurm destroyer IMHO.

Dietys... I'd recommend Marr. Not for the miracles or anything, but rather for the cloak of Valor. It has a nice STR proc that goes off quite a bit, although I've noticed it not procing as much as it used to, lately. Anyone else seen that?

Quests... Do em all. The solo quest line in loping plains has nice AA exp, and some decent rewards. Definitely get into groups for Oblinsk of Blight and Unrest intances. Some nice ranger gear drops in both zones. Do any instances you can, cause its a good way to get geared up quick. Labs is also a good place for gear, if you can get into a raid or 5.

As far as spamming CA's goes... I'm still of the contention that it is best to wait for one to go off before starting another, just to give an autoattack a chance to fire if it is in que. If you have 3 CA's strung together, no autoattack can fire, thus decreasing your DPS

Quick update on my progress, and Thank you for the advice.

I am getting the hang of playing a Ranger again but I still have alot to learn.

I have done the solo quests in LP and ground out some AA's so that I have finished both the Agi and Int lines and am ready to start the Ranger tree. I have started the Rain Caller quest but am stuck on the king in Klak, geez he's a tough sucker. I have also started the Marr deity quest line and am up the Unrest part.

I have been on a couple of raids and have learned about raid dps'ing and how to posistion myself to find the sweet spot . The thing I can't get over is that my melee auto-attack is out of range alot and it's hard to get much dps from it. Ranged is easy to work and some melee CA's are easy to find the range on. Still learning

I have been to OoB a couple of times...lol, not much grouping yet

I have also seen that of my CA's for this teir, I have 10 that are adept 1 and Cloak of the Forest and Lunging Joust I don't even have Gonna be hard to update all those with 8 plat to my name.

You'll find that most rangers won't make use of melee autoattacks - stick with Melee CAs, Ranged CAs and Ranged autoattacks. These are al useable in that sweet spot you found, whilst melee autoattacks require you to move forward a bit more and put your ranged CAs and auto. At least thats what I do, it saves on messing around with positioning every second and allows me to focus on timing of my CAs in between autoattacks.

It buffs our haste a pretty good bit, so you'll hit more often. If you solo alot then definitely get lunging joust. It now has a brief root effect that allows you to back up out of melee and get off a bow shot or two before having to melee again...

Pick and choose which CA's you upgrade to adept 3. I am gathering that you solo alot, so the CA's you use most should be your first upgrades. Snaring Shot, Triple Volley, Rain of Arrows, Rangers Blade.

As for the king in Klak... It's been a while since I did it, but i belive there is a gear or something that you pick up along the way and use on the boss mob when he is at 10% or so. Otherwise he has a damage shield and is impossible to kill. Check on www.eq2I.com for the specifics.

Glad you are enjying yourself, and good luck!

OK, I have progressed on the Rain Caller quest to the point where I go back to Trueshot and the wolves spawn. Now, they are like lvl 60 heroic and they just wear me out, so I'm waiting for some guildmates to come help. I have also progressed to the trials on the Truthbringer deity quest but have failed 6 times on the Valor test. It tells me that I did not fight well enough?!!! I tried everything I could to kill more but I appear to be stuck, any suggestions would be appreciated. I have been looking at the adornments availible and OMG the prices are insane. I have about 8 plat total and most of the lvl 60+ adornments start at 10 plat. So much for that idea

There is a thread from a few months back on the final step for the Valor cloak, but the gist is.... Survive and kill as many as you can as fast as you can.

I quaffed a ward potion and STR and tried to range the mobs before they got to me. I switched to defensive stance soon as the first one reached the ring, and stayed in it throughout. Use lunging joust! The short root lets you get off a bow shot or two before he is back on you. You might try one of the healing miracles from earlier in the quest line, as well

Well I tried every trick suggested and still had no luck with the Valor trial. I told my guildmates and they came to help. They helped me finish the quest for the Rain Caller, and then I went back and finished the Valor trial with ease. Geez , I couldn't believe that one item made sucha big difference. Well ok, so now that I have the Rain Caller and the Cloak of tht Truthbringer what do you suggest that I work on next ? I have a guildmate that has offered to make me some adept3 spells, when I get the loams and I have learned about what poisons and potions that I need to have and now carry some new arrows too. What next ? Thank you
