View Full Version : Combating the Combat Lag Storm

Had my first group experience the other day in the Darkpaw instance.

Lag was pretty severe. I have a beefy system, I think with a lot of ram and newish nvidia 7800, I think, video card.

I read a post somewhere where the poster said that he turned his video settings all the way down during and instance to combat lag.

What did he mean by this? Is it easily done? By easy I mean one checkbox.

Does anyone else turn down their video settings during an instance run?

eq2 button options performance and then in the box that says ballanced or whatever click it and scroll down to highest performance for crappy graphics. I have a 7900 gt nvidia card and I usually run instances with ballanced or maybe higher quality. Always have highest quality on in open zones though.

One possible tweak: before adjusting other settings, go to the options that control shadows and turn them all off. I found that having shadows on produces a performance hit all out of proportion to what you'd expect, and turning them off improves performance more than any other single options change.

ProfitUI: Click the little V for Video Controls, click on one of the four presets.

You really shouldn't be having "combat lag storm" or any lag in a small group, low level instance zone. The eq2 game runs on your computer with updating of actions/locations on the map sent over your isp. yes, in a very crowded zones, raid or whatever there's a lot of info going on and without best computer/isp people will lag.

I suggest posting your computers stats in the tech forum, there is a locked post on top of the tech forum that shows you how to. There has to be something going on with your computer/isp to have any lag in a small instance zone. You shouldn't have to turn the graphics into sock-puppet blobs to not lag.

Also...in Greater Faydark...no matter how much you love flora, you may have to turn that off in the video settings when you are there.
