Hey there guys, just picked up the game and I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far. Glad i got the EoF pack with the 3 expansions in one Anyway, I am playing on a PvP server and I am wondering how the PvP system works in this game. Yes, I have played WoW and no, I don't expect it to be the same. However, I would like to know the ins and outs of it. Is it race vs race or free-for-all? Is there a way to "flag" myself on or off (I'm assuming NOT on the PvP servers) for PvP? Is there any penalty for dying in PvP? Any advantages to PvP other than for fun? Anything else you can tell me about how the PvP works in this would be greatly beneficial to know since I'm on a PvP server Thanks.

What server are you on?

Pvp is complicated to explain in one post, impossible really. Let me first say learn the game first. Don't worry about pvp stats, don't worry about pvping until you learn the game, and learn your class. My suggestion for the best way to do this is to level to 20th level, spend 8$ on the splitpaw saga digital download, and do the splitpaw saga quest lines. Most of it is instanced (not pvp zones) where it will be a challenge for you, and get you familiar with how your class works at a decent level, and what you're capable of.

If you don't understand your class fully, the strengths and the weaknesses, you'll never be able to pvp successfully. You may have fun, but it will be fun with a prefix of "Corpse of".

GEAR -- Possibly the most imortant thing in the game is getting good gear, and maxing out your spell powers. Adept I's are fine for pve.. in pvp you'd better keep hitting the rocks until you get the rare you need for Adept III. Or harvest the masters, but that's a huge time sink. If you have a toon on Vox, or want to roll one on Vox, it's a Station Exchange server. That means if you're well off IRL, you can just buy some things to suit you. buy money to get gear, buy gear directly, or buy a toon that's already twinkled out. Mastercrafted gear should be the minimum that you should leave the city in. Less than that..? Well.. it can be tough to get full MC when you're new, but you'll see the survivablity curve go up dramatically as you gear better.

It's City (freeport) vs Cities (Qeynos, kelthlin) vs Exiles (FFA city, don't go there unless you're already very good at the game).

It's a group game.. so regardless of what class you play, build an effective group. If you can yawn your way through a level appropriate dungeon as a group, then you're ready for pvp.

Faction -- Faction is what you get when you kill an enemy. it's a score that represents how your home cities knights feel about you. They start off thinking you're a fookin noob who suxors.. (-10k), but when you get enough kills, and enough faction (around +9k) they think you're cool enough to allow you to get some of their status gear. note: PvP gear is among the best gear in the game. Faction is the key to getting this gear until you hit lvl 70, but dont' worry about that just yet.

heh, oh yeah, BANK!!! Bank often, bank well. Do not leave the town with anything on you that you wouldn't want to drop on an enemy. You absoultely CAN drop that 10 plat you have on you, so bank it. You CAN drop that Adept III spell you're holding for next level, and that shiny new shield. Don't carry it with you, BANK it.

There's no real dueling here. Sometimes you can try to arange a 1v1 vs someone.. but don't count on it. Keep your group close, and your enemies closer.

Avoid enemy cities and guards. They'll kill you. Easily. Rangers have something called Hook Shot as part of their AA line that allows them to pull you to the guards if you come too close. Bruisers have an ability called Drag that allws them to grab you and pull them towards guards. Just stay away.. best bet.

Can't think of more right now, but your best bet is to go to the PvP boards here on SoE, and check em out. Some threads there with good advice. Look me up if you're on vox, and i'll throw some hints and help at ya.

Thanks Bozidar, that's a very informative post there I'm actually on Nagafen server, but I will certainly seek out some of the more experienced people and get in a guild to learn more about PvP. Although I think I may have a while before I actually start thinking about doing much.
