OK..so I have the Master II Ball of Fire spell..and I remember last time I had a similar level wizard I was hitting max damage quite often (about 6 months ago)...and I had no where near the gear I have now. But for some reason my wizzy just isn't doing the damage I expect from her with that spell, can anyone help me out? I can't log in atm to get my stats but it's really bugging me, I keep dying from what should be easy kills...

I doubt this post will help much, but i am also a lvl 28 wizard. I dont quite understand why you are struggling so bad, i hardly ever die on my wizzy anymore. The Ball of Fire spell hits HARD, i critted with it for over 1.2k at lvl 24 and frequently see 1000+ dmg from it.  My stats arent that good YET, as i have my 32 MC set waiting, right now using OK gear. One thing that might help me not die as much, id be willing to guess that you are either AGI, WIS or STR? correct? if so that would explain the deaths. I am STA specced and with the extra mit, focus and disruption i gain i become a mini tank with nukes.. on mobs non heroic i dont even bother to root, named mobs i still root and nuke though. One thing is for sure, i hardly ever get resisted - due to the STA line. 28 Wizzy Najena

No stat in the game affects where in the damage range for a spell you hit. If you were frequently hitting for max damage, it only makes sense that you'll have streaks where you frequently hit for bottom damage.

So no stat affects it? Grrrr.... I mean like  Cortair... on my old wizzy thats how I was but on this one I've only hit over 1k once, and hardly ever get even close to it. I'm normally around 500-600 damage and it's really cutting down my use as a wizard. It's just abou the only useful master I have and it's sucking horribly.

I have a low level wizard as well with this spell, and I have to say your probably just seeing mobs with high heat resist, dont forget to factor in that certain mobs will have high resists of specific types. I have seen some mobs where I cant break 600, and some where i'm hitting 1000-1200 with it.

The drakes in Labs have high cold resist and normal to lesser heat resist...go figure...a mob that breathes fire has high cold resist.

Be sure to cast your Icicles (or whatever its level-appropriate name is, of course) - it debuffs the mob's resistance to heat damage, making your Ball of Whatever hit much harder. Also make sure you are equipping to raise your INT - the higher it is, the higher the damage is going to be. My two cents (as a lvl70 wizard, who had the Master II version of Ball of Fire back before upgrading to Ball of Lava)...

Whats your INT like?

Okay first off.. If you can get the Fog Grimm Armor and equip it for your Int boost and such. (personally id go with all fog grimm except chest which is a web-covered blouse for the better int and other stat benefit) If you look at my profile youll see different stuff but thats because i level 37 atm and switched out a few things for more int. Remember.. MORE INT MEANS MORE DMG OUTPUT *plus mana pool size* Just go hunt in EL solo wise. use your cold shield also before or right after the pull to get a bit more damage onto the NPC. Use heroic's as mcuh as you can do take the mob down quick. The objective is to kill it fast and quick with high dmg spells but not get Koed in one shot by them.
