Spearfish are now evidently on the endangered species list.

I picked up a trade requesition in EL the other day. It requested x number of spearfish dorsal fins.

"Oh ! Easy !" I thought to myself. I still have these otter totems and I know right where these fish are. Ive seen them by the dozens before in EL along the shores not far from the docks. Im a ranger so I can "track" them.... Easy ! "Ill have this done in no time !"

Well let me tell you you dont see them by the dozens any more I spent about 1 1/2 hours hunting them, found about a total of 6 ! and of course none of them dropped the desired fins.

What Im wondering ... where did they all go ? Are ocean gliders placeholders for them ? Anyplace else I might find them ?

That is pretty much it. Off the shore just on either side of the main docks.

Some days they seem to be all over while others they are no where to be seen. I cannot say for sure they gliders are PHers per say but they may share the same spawn counters.

The Spearfish share the same spawn as the gliders. I dont recall any quests for the gliders, so the Spearfish become rare. Spearfish are needed for:

Writs

FSR dropped quest

EL Timeline quest

Because of that, chances are people just kill the spearfish that are out there and if a glider spawns in its place, it probably gets left alone - people generally dont like to fight in the water. Best time to do it is earlier in the day, when chances are 50% of the fish will be Spearfish. agressiv

I can take him out about 50% of the time if I get the jump on him. Problem is I always forget he is there and just run happily right by him and BAM... slowed, stunned and debuffed. I have about just enough time to say "oops".

Thanks for the tip on Nek Ill try looking there.

The spearfish *must* be in EL (there are none in Nek itself anyway) - but what he meant was "around the dock that leads to Nek" - they are in the water there, in EL. Hmm, I dont recall any of the quests for spearfish requiring corpse loot - just killing the mob updated the quest. What is the exact name? I've done the FSR's, the guild writs and one of the quests in the EL timeline, and dont recall any of them needing a body drop, but its been a while. agressiv

Every kill is an update....Offhand, I dont remember if there is any quest that requires the 'other' spearfish in EL but, if there is, 'those' spearfish are off the west coast of EL, out where Cragshell hangs out. They are 'giant spearfish'.

Hrm. Very strange it is indeed a Far Sea's Requesition which specifically states "9 sailfish dorsal fins".

Perhaps it is the "giant sailfish" but shouldent it say "9 giant sailfish dorsal fins" ?

Sigh...

It isnt totally inconcievable that the fishies may be broke...Snakes, more exactly vipers, were broken for quest updates not long ago. I believe I still have that FSR on one of my characters on test. Will jump on and check it out.

*edit* bah, only have badgers and bearcubs left, spearfish were already done.

To put some closure on this sillyness.

It turns out that its the requestions that are broke and not the fish.

The requesitions will not "activate" when you click the "fill the requesition" line in the examine window.

I dident realize this till I found another for the turtles which "activated" fine and was able to fill in a few minutes.

I actually found another requisition for more turtles (Salt Snappers) which would not activate either. Pluse I heard from another player whom had the same problem.

I /bugged it but just to let all know if you get an FSR and examine it, select "fill the order" and nothing happens the requisition is not worth the paper its written on... oh wait... uhh... its worthless
