Bare fists vs. weapons

<p>At what point in time should I drop the STR line of AA's and start using weapons?  Is there a specific set of weapons readily available that will make the difference?  When I say readily available, I mean I can either do a heroic quest, or pay less than a couple of platinum pieces.</p>

I think you are out of luck on both counts; I haven't seen a decent quested weapon and 2 plat will get you a mastercrafted item.

This question has come up often, and the base answer is, for DPS, only Fabled weapons will ever replace bear fists.  Add to that the fact that Bare Fists is a constantly upgrading fable-equivalent, and that means only in the end-game would you want to switch to weapons.  And on AB, Fabled end-game weapons run 30 to 60 plat, <i>when</i> they are available.
