There is another thread about how to use spells. That one is more serious how to improve. This is about spells we don't really have any use for. I know this is mostly fluffspells but other classes at least have some fun fluffspells could we please have someone have a look at ours. Just since we are clerics do we have to be boring to? Summon Food and Water: Useless after level 10. Cant it scale just a little?? Faith of Respect: Useless since all is level 70 Blessing: Not very fun Detect Evil: Eh right Summon Holy Symbol: Not fun at all Holy Acolyte: Ever seen any templar running around with this dumb looking follower? Nearly useless Holy Aura: Only some what fun fluff spell we have Odyssey: Who need it with 2 calls and druids and wizards having so much better gates? Soothe: Almost useless since it have a significant chance of pulling the entire room. It has way to long reuse to. But OK sometimes its not totally useless. Blaze of faith: To slow to little. /Hugs Tash

I love Odyssey especially when they changed the recast to 3 mins its one of the best spells we have Soothe is cool for harvesting or collecting ? or pulling mobs, so it's ok. But for the funspells I have to say they are just worthless using and no fun at all.

Last I checked, the fluff spells weren't automatically given to you when you levelled up.

Even then, I take it you aren't picking up any of the smite enhancement line of Templar achievements? Tell me again how slow Blaze of Faith is with at least an Adept III, increased spell crits, spell haste, and the Enhance: Blaze of Faith achievements. I was easily hitting 1200 DPS in Echoes Beta by using this spell to great effect (especially coupled with Smite Wrath).

I use Soothe to cut down the final fights in Unrest (skip as many fragments as possible, body pull only the shards that way). Shaves at LEAST 20 minutes out of the caverns area, since you avoid most of the respawn that way.

Dont' get me started on how many Odyssey stones I've gone through. If you don't like the spell, that's fine. Personally, I find it great that I'm still getting utility out of a spell I first picked up in 2004.

When is odyssey useful? How often are you in a position where you need to call so often? I never find myself in this spot for some reason since the offline spell timer change.

If I want to call back to Qeynos Harbor bank to swap some gear for my broker mule, or to put some new gear into our guild bank, or to hop over to the mender right there...I just do it. I don't have to worry about waiting 32 minutes for Call of Qeynos to come up. I don't have to use Call of Ro and then zone again to Qeynos Harbor then run to the bank. I don't have to find a druid or sorcerer to teleport me to Antonica, hop a griffin, run to the dock and zone again. If I want to call to Qeynos Harbor - I just call.

Is it lazy? It sure is. It's delightfully lazy. You know why I use it then? Because I can. Not because I need to or have to, but because I can. It's like having a magic carriage driver available to me within 3 minutes every time I need him, any hour of day or night.

In all seriousness, if you don't find it useful, that's fine. It's a level 13 spell. How useful SHOULD level 13 spells be? If you don't like it, don't use it. Take it off of your hotbar. Never scribe it again. Forget it exists. There, now that you've done all that, does it affect your ability to enjoy playing as a Templar?

Most fun spells for most classes really aren't too fun. But if you want really unfun fun spells, become a swashy lol

As for odyssey, I use that fairly often. No, not anything like qeynos or ro, but I tend to jump around a lot. Also, I've on more then a few occasions have been able to help out group/raid members who didn't have their Call up.

Like Kendricke said, it's just a lvl 13 spell - but I use it a lot more then any other lvl 13 spell I have.

Odessy - our best utility spell by far. I use it all the time - and not just on myself although i tend not to advertise it as i dont want to be hanging around waiting for the 3 min recast for an entire group !

As for most of the rest, i agree they are generally crap and could do with a serious overall, particularly the "pet" ones as we must have the most boring pets of any class, stupid Tunare "light" anyone. The "avatar" one that looks like a wiz ? can we have that as a "divine" lokking warrior please /sigh

The aura looks too overdone imo and needs to be more subtle with a hint of other colours maybe.

Ok so I had decided not to bother with this thread again but since I haven't got anything better to do at the moment I guess I can write some. Snip* -Since when are Summon Food and Water, Odyssey, Soothe, and Blaze of Faith considered "fun" spells? Last I checked, the fluff spells weren't automatically given to you when you levelled up. * Marking words? Well ok No they isn't very fun but the criteria for fun spells isn't that they isn't automatically given to you when you level up. As you know no spells are given to you after hmmm is it 30 cant even bother to remember. Soothe seem to have been changed I have tested some and it doesn't seem to pull aggro as I used to do. So I can admit it have some use. I test it out some more. Oh well If peoples think Odyssey are so fantastic since you can go from one part of SQ to QH. And you can get a whole group from an instance to their home just under 20 minutes ... eh well... Im really happy for you. We did the prismatic and killed the four Drakotas. So we had 10 players that wanted to move from one zone to another. Just tell me what is best a druid ring or Odyssey? We did a writ run and had 6 people that wanted back and get new. What is best a druid ring or Odyssey? We wanted fast get to another area so we decided to train. What is best do you say odyssey or Sow? SOW scale ...... Odyssey don't. Druid rings can move many players in no time to a number of places. Odyssey can move one player to one fixed spot in 3 minutes. So well If you think Odyssey are so grand ... eh well as I said Im happy for you. /Tash

The fluff spells are purchasable from class trainers (back in the day, npc sages) at level 20, 30, 40 and 50. Odyssey, Soothe and Summon Food and Drink are spells that are granted to us as we level up. Whilst I will leave you to argue their relative usefulness, they were determined by the omniscient Gods to be worthwhile and purposeful.
Lairia

Before we go any further I admit that it was not very well put.

I should have called this thread. Unfun fluff spells and other spells that I personally feel isn't of very much use or should have some sort of upgrade. Sorry for the confusion that this might have lead to. /Tash

I don't use it as a group spell, and neither do most Templars I know of. To compare it against a true group teleport is like saying Condemning Smite isn't a very good damage spell when compared to Blaze of Faith. Not only are you comparing a lower level spell against a higher level spell, but you're comparing apples to oranges.

By itself, Odyssey is useful to many Templars. It may not be useful to you. That's fine by me. I know Templars who never even look at their daze or stun spells...whereas I use mine constantly.

Tash 123 wrote:

We wanted fast get to another area so we decided to train. I can buy a Spirit of the Wolf totem. I also have a horse that puts Spirit of Wolf to shame. I have no mount which grants an additional call.

As far as a "fixed location", druid rings don't move. If I want to get to Qeynos Harbor quickly, I can either use an Antonica druid ring, an Antonica sorceror port, or just call directly to my bind point which is 30 feet from the mender and banker...which itself is hardly a fixed location (I guess you've never run the Bind That Ties quest, eh?).

Then again, it's apples and oranges again. Next time your level 15 group needs to get back home quickly, and someone has to wait 17 minutes for call to come up, ask the druid to cast a Ring portal. Oh wait...it's a level 25 spell. I guess you could ask for Spirit of the Wolf, right...and just run home? Of course, the cleric could just cast Odyssey and no one has to wait, right?

Seriously, I had access to Odyssey in November of '04. Druids JUST got access to portals in November of '06. Now, I realize math can be hard, but to me, that looks like something like 700 days of calling that I had access to where druids did not. Does it bother me now that druids can cast their portals? Sure doesn't. It's better for my groups or raids when there's a druid around, typically.

Oddly enough though, I STILL get asked for Odyssey nearly every time we finish one raid and are moving to the next...even when a druid portal is open just 15 feet away. I guess some folks think that a portal near Qeynos and a portal inside of Qeynos are somehow different. Boy, they sure just don't know any better, do they?

I guess I should remind them that Tash123 thinks they're pretty silly for thinking that Odyssey is better than a druid port next time, and refuse to cast the spell on them, right?

When you use Odyssey...just remember to select yourself or the specific person that needs to be ported. I was in a raid one time and had to leave...so I cast Odyssey...everyone wondered why the Main Tank disappeared. I wasn't very popular after that.

Question: Do the Odyssey bind point and the COQ bind point have to be the same?
