Hello, I'm a new player fleeing from a 2 year stint in World of Something or Other. I played the EQ2 trial and liked it, so I bought the game this weekend. So far, so good! I'm looking for a steady group of players or a guild that I can quest/play with. I estimate that I will be playing (at first, anyway) most weekdays from around 5-8 pm Eastern and varying times on the weekends. This will increase dramatically if/when I cancel my Other Game subscription. I am looking to be a "heavy rp'er". Question 1: Is there some sort of guild recruitment/description forum somewhere around these parts? I checked the EQ2 Players and found some guild stuff, but there are tons listed and they don't have much of a description. Question 2: Is there a good place to post in these forums (if not here) in an effort to find similar players? Like I said, I enjoy the game so far, but my biggest fear is finding people to play with. The game is fairly old and I'm not sure how many new people it is attracting. I heard there was a mass exodus to Vanguard. I also tried that game and it might be good, once it's out of the alpha development stage! Anyway, hopefully I'll get some good answers here. I have heard many good things about the EQ2 community!

First of all A big welcome to the game...

As to the questions, my advice would be to find a server thats in the same time zone as you and ask around in game or check out the server fourms here.

As to the new players, they are still joining just check out the The Newbie Yard for all the new player questions..

Most of all, look around, group with some people from different guilds and if you like join them, you can aways leave if things go bad.

The best thing to do is decide which server (or servers) suit your time zone and play style best (see the FAQ stickied in this forum for a more detailed list) and then post on those server forums to see what guilds are around. (Link to server forums in the post above.)

Since you said you're interested in heavy RP, that most likely narrows it down to Antonia Bayle, Lucan de Lere, or Venekor, unless you're in the European or Asia Pacific time zone. Of those three, Venekor would be the way to go if you want PvP. If you are happy to try PvE, then both Antonia Bayle and Lucan de Lere are great servers. Antonia Bayle is more heavily populated, which you may or may not consider a point in its favour. Visit their forums and you should get a good idea of the kind of guilds there are, and the kinds of RP events that are held.

If you've picked a server then hit the "u" key in game. You'll get a list of the first 10 guilds to log in a recruiter after an update. Usually, those are the bigger guilds looking for raid people. But, maybe that's what you want.

Antonia Bayle and Lucan D'lere are the RP servers. They are very heavily RP, but they do have their share of non-RP griefers.

On the EQ2 players main page there is an option to search guilds. There are a number of sort options, but that can still leave you with hundreds of guilds to choose from.

I simply typed in my level channel that I was looking for a guild. After 17 direct invites I picked the one guild that actually sent a tell first. Don't be too shy about leaving a guild if you don't like the atmosphere. With all the guilds out there, it's just too easy to pick one that's incompatible with your personality.

You didn't mention if you preferred/minded PvP or not. So, if you are looking to add some challenge to your game play, check out Venekor server as well. It is tagged as RP/PvP. Regardless of which server you choose. Finding friends and/or a guild will be the least of your worries. EQ2 is a very social game and you'll find that not interacting with other people is quite difficult if you want to accomplish much. Don't set your goals so high at first would be my suggestion. Just get in to the game, explore and meet people. The rest, such as finding a guild, will fall together all on its own. Welcome and enjoy!

Thanks for all the replies! I have decided to play on Antonia Bayle. Venekor would be fun as well, but I need to learn to play EQ2 without having to worry about PvP! Maybe later for that.... Right now I'm playing around with different characters to see what I want to play. I don't think I want to play a pet class, and so far I'm learning toward on of the melee classes. Once I figure out what I'd like to play, I'm seen a couple of guilds that look interesting. Couple of questions: 1. I'm enjoying a Shadow Knight, but I'm a little concerned about their group/raid desirability. Are they useful/desirable in groups? 2. Around what level should I start looking for a guild? I know some guilds have minimums; related to this question is another: around what level should one start grouping?

All classes are fun to play and are useful in riads. I have never played an SK myself but do many who do and enjoy it. If that is the class that seems fun to you then by all means go with it!

You can start looking for a guild anytime. The one I belong to Vindicators is always open to making new friends any time. We are not a heavy RP guild though but do respect folks who like to RP. You can find out more about us at www.vindicators.org

Happy Adventuring!
