View Full Version : Personnae - worth Upgrading?

<p>I just received my new Personnae (Lv. 20) and fought with it a bit at App 1. I died at one point, and accidently summoned my old Personnae (lv. 10, App 4.) and fought for a while. I didn't notice any difference. Finally, I had the App4 for the lv. 20, and scribed it, and resummoned the pet. Still, no noticable difference. They all listed as level 20, White To Me, when I summoned them (I think.) What I would like to know from someone who <i>knows</i> is:</p><p>1) At any level, what is the difference between an App2 and a Master1 pet?</p><p>2) Is it better to keep summoning, for argument's sake, a Lv. 10 Master pet over a Lv. 20 App4 pet?</p><p>Thank you, my senior Ilussionists, for any advice you can give a freshly scrubbed Enchanter!</p><p>Frostdarter 20th Fae Illusionist, AB</p>
<p>I just about never use my personae, but I believe upgrading the spell level (10/20) gives it some more hp/mp. Upping spell quality (app1/m1) makes its abilities stronger (m1 means m1 quality spells, app1 means app1 quality spells). Though I might be wrong, personae weren't implemented until after I hit the level cap I think so I never got to use any except the latest version (lvl61).</p>

I am surprised that the old spell gave you a level 20 personnae. Generally the spells are level capped to just below the old spell, so I would have expected the old one to have given you a level 19 personnae. The other thing is that when the personnae casts spells he casts them at the same level of skill as the spell used to create him. So an app I personnae casts all app1 spells, and a app IV personnae casts app IV spells. The spells are similar to the ones you cast yourself. Personnae cast with higher level spells also have a greater range of spells to cast. The answer to you quest is yes. Personnae is worth upgrading, getting it to adept III should be a high priority. As for level 10 Master vs level 20 app IV, it depends what level you are. At level 20 the level 10 master would be better, at level 30 the level 20 app IV would be.

<p>Level 19 illusi here <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> My app 2 personae was getting eaten alive....I upgraded it to App 4 and it was a very noticeable difference. Looking forward to the next upgrades now.</p>

As mentioned above, the grade of your personae spell affects the grade of spells they cast. I have noticed with most spells that an Adept 3 or Master I of a spell say from lvl 20 is just about equal to or even slightly better than the App 1 upgrade you will get at lvl 34. That is, at least as far as damage goes, but the higher the lvl of mob, the more and more they will resist those spells. If you are a caster, your spells are your weapons. Get the best you can afford is my advice.

Also, at certain levels the new Personae spells give the pet new spell lines it can cast.

<p>Aye,</p><p>When I got my lvl 33 Personae, I found that it was now casting the root spell.</p><p>Also when I upgraded it to Master I, I found that it could actually deal with lvl 25 ^^^ giants in TS (obviously not single handedly, but can actually tank the whole battle and survive HP>50%)</p><p>Further, when set to /pet ranged it would keep the giant at bay. Casting a construct (also master I, more HP - only difference I noticed) means the Giant actually wastes most of its time killing the construct rather than the pet.</p><p> Finally I would just rain spells on it (ironically most are only App I), and the giant would fall fairly quickly, and I never stole aggro from my pet. (might if I had upgraded spells though).</p>

While you are levelling the personna will help you solo. Personally I haven't cast if for months.

<p>/pet ranged and /pet melee are 2 relatively new commands for pets. They have only been in the game about 1 month.</p><p>You need to refresh it with each new pet. The default illusionist is /pet melee. Every time you summon a new one, he reverts to that. Type or hotkey /pet ranged and he will not run in and fight. It's situational, since our chaos line is a melee proc and a very significant part of our DPS. </p><p>You can toggle the pet for different ways with the 2 commands. I think if he's already engaged though, he won't listen to the new command unless you /pet back off and /pet attack though. I haven't done that much experimentation with it.</p><p>Zebsen</p>

The opposite doesn't seem to be true. For example if the pet is in default mode, and going through a cycle of spells and you hit /pet ranged it will still charge into melee as soon as it's finished casting, totally ignoring the command. Also, the /pet ranged command shuts itself off randomly. I always use /pet ranged as soon as I summon my pet, and I get the confirmation message. When I'm slowly burning down a yellow ^^^ heroic and then out of the blue my pet runs in and gets himself 2-shotted before I can call him back anyway, it can be somewhat annoying.

While controlling your pet, you can see all of its spells, attributes, and skills.</p><p>Before upgrading to my Master 1 pet, I checked out his spell list and found that the spells were a bit weaker than normal. For example, his root spell lasted much less time than my root spell, etc. After upgrading to Master 1, his spells became more powerful.</p><p>The difference in survivability between pets is that the better the level spell, the longer stuns and roots last. When controlling your pet, you can see the sequence of spells it casts and it is clear that they are arranged for maximum survivability as opposed to maximum damage. They spend a lot of time stunning, silencing, and stifling their target. The better the pet, the more effective the spells it casts, and the longer they can stay alive.</p><p>In your early levels, especially when soloing, you want to make sure you have the best pet possible. When you start raiding at level 70, the only reason you'd want to use a pet is to increase your DPS parse numbers at the expense of buffing raid members. As you can imagine, you'd have to be very greedy if you care more about your parse number than the actual raid DPS output. Dropping haste and proc buffs on other DPS classes will bring more DPS than whatever your pet brings.</p>
