View Full Version : Why do we have to pay for this information?

I returned to EQ2 a few months ago after taking a several month break, and was happy to see EQ2Players had been overhauled during the time I was gone. It listed information in a much nicer format, and included a lot of extras like the searchable leaderboards and Achievements breakdowns (although that often seems to not be correct anyway). I figured they had finally realized making people pay for this stuff didn't really make sense as it helped differentiate them from WoW and other games that don't provide this kind of nice interface. Well, now you have to pay extra per month just to see most of this information, and I recently saw that WoW now has their own version of player database called "The Armory", which I have to say is pretty slick. You can see it at: http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/#index.xml and see what I mean. It seems like this entire site will be free to WoW subscribers (although this could change in the future), and after seeing it I really only feel more disappointed in EQ2Players. I usually like to show off EQ2Players to friends who are considering the game or play other MMOs to show them all the cool stuff you can look up, and it seems like it would really benefit SoE to just let everyone use the features without making us pay additional fees on our monthly subscription, especially when portions of EQ2Players still don't work correctly and show no sign of being fixed soon.

I had the extras early on when things sort of worked, but once things were broken and never got fixed I cancelled the extras pronto. And now after the new rollout, we have even less free features than before...that really pisses me off.
