<p> Hello EQ2 Fellowship</p><p> Iam posting this message for all to hear, a tale of Sarrow that struck me yesterday when i logged into my server (everfrost) to discover that my first name had been strikin down and a new unpronouncable name was given to me. NO WARRNING NO EMAIL to confirm such a hanis act. When i did log in, my own guild didnt even know who i was and thought id hacked my way into the guild, and as so was bombarded with a flood of questions that i had to work threw. I myself was shocked of this move, my toons name was BLACKSABATH a senior officer with 600k plus status points in the guild KNIGHTS OF THE PALE ROSE and at present been playing eq2 with sabath for 1112 days without so much as a blemish on his record. Ive always have been complimented on my name choice and actually been offered many guild invites for this name.</p><p> Now even after petitioning ive yet to get a return reply from SOE support on this matter. But reading up on there web page, ive discovered that they reserve the right to change a name at anytime without warrning or notice and you have 7 days to petition a request to submit your own name request ealse it stays with what they give ya AAAAKKK <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> "and a crappy name they gave me"</p><p> Again i dont know how to put into words the problems this brings up. Now if my name was truly offensive and it had to be changed a warrning of some sorts wouldof been great and the option to rename my toon right then, but why would this even be an issue on an elder lvl 70 toon such as sabath, Soe should have cought this along time ago like newbie stages not after a toon has been astablished for yrs on this game.</p><p> WeLL we all know as our characters grows so does there name and reputation, and that matters heavily when it comes to groups and raids also your vendor stock as well, YOU LOSE IT ALL WHEN YOUR NAME IS CHANGED!!!and its amazing how soe can just throw yrs of work away in one swipe." A DEATH OF A TOON" is what i call it. PLEASE ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE HELPFULL ON THIS MATTER IT MAY HAPPEN TO YOU TOO!!!!</p><p> FOREVER.......BLACKSABATH.......OZZYGNOMEBORN..... .......1 [Removed for Content] OFF LVL 70 (GNOME) WARLOCK (Knights of the pale Rose)</p>

Your named after a well known rock band...Did you honestly think that you could keep that name no matter how long you've had it? Just because you've had it for a long amount of time doesnt mean your allowed to keep it. Also names don't get caught early because there not really doing a full search for names, maybe a GM saw it while they were in game, someone petitioned you ect. I understand that its frustrating to lose your identity really but thats how it is. I play on the pvp server and everything you mentioned about names is literally doubled...we even have a fame, infamy system heh. But sadly I highly doubt you will get it back, if anything a alternate version of it.

well thats strange but the band name is spelled BLACK SABBATH and my name was spelled BLACKSABATH Now unless your a poor lore of rock legend and dont know that. that thought was considered when the name was picked and it doesnt violate copyright laws.

That doesnt matter. And I think you knew that. You simply combined the words, the name is still there though. Maybe if your name was Black and your surname was sabbath you could get away with it but I highly doubt it. It would be like someone naming there character limpbisket, is it spelled right..no? Its 2 words but it still represents the name of a band and thus in violation. Just because your don't spell it right or even combine more then one word together like you did your still gona get caught.

seems like your all for this type action either way. maybe sometime someone will rollover your choice of names after so many yrs util then it seems not to matter, whats important was the way it was done.so maybe i can run around the game petitioning gm about how many other toons names offend me, ya that be not cool, but the reason for this post was for awareness of this poor policy, hopefully it wont effect you someday or anyone for that matter..

<p>It is indeed a sad day when your name gets yanked off of you! It seems to me that in old EQ1 a GM would send you a tell and make you change your name on the spot. It happened to a guildie of mine in those days who had chosen a somewhat off-color last name. It amused me, but I gather someone took offense, and so the name was changed.</p><p> Perhaps there are not enough GMs in EQ2 to take care of a personal tell....I don't know, but I still don't see what's wrong with the name. You're saying you think it's copyright infringement? I can understand that might be a problem, but sheesh, just one short gnome <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <i> </i>I wonder if you could get away with Black`Sabath? Yay I fixed the problem?</p><p>I hope that at least SOE will reply to the email/petition with something other than a canned response.</p><p>Hang in there lil gnome <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

try playing on nagafen. People are using the petitioning of names like a weapon. The system is horrible, if your named after someone with a famous first name you'll lose it even if that name happens to be yours in real life. A character named madonna would be against the rules and my name could easily have been madonna. Im not saying, suck it up and live with it because it really does suck. I made multiple characters with names I wanted when nagafen came out just in case someone pushed to get my named banned even though nothings wrong with it. The way things go down there all you have to do is go to wikipedia to find a name against the rules. Honestly I believe 90% of names can be consider breaking the rules. But sony doesnt care about that only if your playing the game.
