Did SoE mention that they were not going to have anymore character classes or they might?
I don't recall where to find an exact quote, but my memory is they've said "HIGHLY unlikely". It's far more likely we'll have a new race than a new class. Because of the way the classes are divided into archetypes and matched pairs within them, it would be very difficult to add just one new class. At the minimum you'd have to add two classes at a time, and to maintain a full balance, you'd have to add 8 classes (2 scouts, 2 mages, 2 fighters, and 2 healers) to keep it all in balance. The additional headache this would cause just even trying to think up 8 new classes not to mention fitting them into the existing class balance really wouldn't be worth it, IMO. The existing classes are balanced pretty well these days anyway, I don't see anything we need to add. As EQ2 matures, I expect to see new races added, and perhaps new abilities added or tweaked to existing classes. But I don't expect to see any completely new adventure classes any time in the forseeable future.

I found the exact quote, from Lyndro (source), in response to someone asking for the Beastlord class:

---

My post from the beastlord thread on the old forums: I imagine we'll put in new classes when every class is perfectly balanced, every class has a unique and distinctive role and playstyle, all the class related bugs are fixed, and we have a good solid idea for a truly unique class that is useful, balanced, and doesn't infringe on another class' unique and distinctive role and playstyle... Seriously though, we have enough classes as it is, and enough issues with as many classes as we have. We really don't need to add any more. Anytime someone here suggests it, even in passing, we make it a point to pelt them with rotten fruit and taunt them.

---

classes all are perfectly balanced:

would never happen, cause of all the whiners out there. "Buhu this UBA RAIDING shadowknight can hold aggro much better then my 5level-lower-common-geared-paladin" (no offence to paladins or sk, just an example *eg*)

classes all got their unique roles:

will never happen too. cause as i startet the game, somebody said to me: "It should be possible to do any encoutner with any group, just the groupsetup should decide if its harder or easier to get the mob down" so there shouldnt be unique roles out there within the class-system.

healer heals, tank tanks, scout/mages do dps. really "different" is the solo ability, but in groupsetup it doesnt matter much what classes are in the group as long as they fit together and the button-presser-behind-the-screen knows a bit what to do. walked throug obelisk of blight with a bringand as tank and a warden as healer. no further tank, but much dps (illu, wizzi, conjuror if i remember right) and it was not really a challenge. its more or less all about gear and masterspells in the end.

so whats gonna be the unique role of a monk compared to the bruiser?

there is no need for new classes i think. which class are you missing? beastlords? imagine a ogre beastlord with the big fat bear pet they got in eq1 and next to him standing the gnome beastlord with a mice as pet *MMWWAHHAA*

i think the possibilities are all covered with the existing classes. before new classes are implemented try to get the existing ones working as intended. still lot of bugs with the classes out there.

maybe give us some more achievments, or open a broader spectrum of achievments. some "general" to all available achivements would be nice. thinking of runspeed improvement or weight-reduction like in eq1.
