For the first time I'm trying out an illusionist in EQ2 and it's pretty fun. The problem is that at level 20 I have 9 AA points and have absolutely no idea of where to spend them, aside from mana flow as a starter. I considered the wis or the agi line, which one would give me bigger benefits? I play mainly in small groups of 2-3 players doing heroic content. Thanks.

It may be better to spend your early points in the AGI line until you get a few more AA's under your belt, and then respec into the WIS line. The difference in having the WIS line maxed versus not having it at all is very noticeable. With the WIS line, you will never ever have to worry about getting resists with your crowd control spells. Mezzes, stuns, and roots will always land, and you can count on them at all times. You will die less often, and keep groups alive longer in dangerous dungeons. If Sony would change the charm AA to last more than 16 seconds, the WIS line would be the absolute best line for soloing illusionists in the game.

Now, if you will spend most of your time grouped, I suggest working through the AGI line first as this gives imediate and noticeable benefit throughout the line. The AGI line is the only absolute must-have line in the game. Chronomancer FTW. There is nothing more satisfying than getting chronosiphoning up to level 5 and then spamming through two hotbars worth of spells.

The STR line is actually a pretty cool line for soloers, but only after you max the WIS line if you plan to solo. Otherwise it is the lamest line in our list.

The STA line is not too bad if you plan to play an AFK bot role in raids. I really can't find a lot of use for the STA line otherwise.

The INT series is a fantastic line for those illusionists that want to maximize their DPS. I found my DPS to increase by about 50% when spec'ed with INT AA's. In my guild, our DPS'ers do so much damage that it was hard to crack the top 5 parse list. My guild leader asked me to respec to WIS for those times when a raid calls for Crowd Control at the expense of the 600 or so DPS lost by leaving the INT line. I can still crack the top 5 encounter parse list but only on specific encounters. My max parse under the INT line was about 2.2K encounter, with about 1k zonewide. Without the INT line, my max parse is about 1.6K encounter and 700 zonewide.

Mentioned earlier is the agility line as essential. i agree. Something you should be sure to notice though is that some of the lines require secondary to be empty, or a symbol in secondary, or what ever. My point is, be sure not to choose lines that conflict with one another.
