Are you on a trial account?

All sounds very strange. Are you a new EQ2 player or a regular player? You do not mention if it is the adventure level (blue xp bar) or trade skill level (purple xp bar). Trade skill level will stick at 10 until you talk with the npc outside the tradeskill place to choose a skill class. You will have to talk to him again around 19-20 to choose your final profession.

Are you sure it is your house? Pretend you're a visitor and look at who lives there. There is a game key that brings up you details. I think it's under the P key.

Sorry, but we really need a bit more info.

The Trial Account limits you on what you are able to do. I dont think you can even leave the starting area.

Exactly you can not level until you buy the cd key for it.

You can do almost anything. The two things you can't do: exceed level 10, and leave the island. You can still run around, kill things, collect loot, etc., but without being able to gain levels, leave the zone, use the broker etc. that's not going to really help. Basically the Trial of the Isle and Play the Fae accounts are intended to let new people see whether they're interested in the game before they spend the money on the game itself. They're not intended to be long-term things, the assumption is that by the time you've gone through the entire starting zone you ought to know whether you want to play any more or not. If not, that's the end of it. If you're still interested in playing, you need to buy the game. I'd recommend the Echoes of Faydwer retail package, not the digital downloads or the earlier packages (EQ2 Classic and the Desert of Flames and Kingdom of Sky expansions). The EOF retail package gives you the base game plus all the expansion packs included, plus all the retail-only goodie items not in the digital downloads, and it costs less than buying all the digital downloads or the other retail packages.

I cant recall a date or the update, but the bugproblem was with you being able to leave the isle, interact with the broker, etc. There was a major problem with plat sellers using that free trial account as a spamming tool and severe restrictions were placed upon it. With the forums wiped in the upgrade, I doubt I can find the original announcement from SOE.
