View Full Version : Help! I’m hooked on speed!

The other day I decided to put my ranger aside and play an alt. The problem is that after running around with 46% run speed (pathfinding with EoF AAs) on my ranger, my alt feels like he is running through mud. I am so hooked on running fast, I don’t think I can play a character that doesn’t get a nice buff to run speed. What other classes get a good run speed buff (say over 30 percent) at early levels (before 20)? I know that bards, shamen, and druids run fast, but I have no idea at what percent or at what level. Thanks

You're not gonna get over 30% before 20 without farming APs I don't think. All the SoWs require you to place APs into them to buff up IIRC. All other scouts, besides Bard types, get Pathfinding as well only they are stuck with the 16% speed which is better than nothing IMO.

I believe that the Totem of the Wolf gives a +24% speed bonus and can be used at level 15. They are very cheap to make if you can find a level 39+ (I think it's 39) woodworker to help you out.

Druids get SoW at 13. Can't get in game right now, but I believe the cast SoW (not the totem) is 20%. Once you get AAs, you can pop them into the EoF tree and eventually get your SoW up to 45%.

Classes that have movement: Druids Shamen Bards (Ranger of course) If you really like your current character, you can get by without speed spells. As a post above mentioned, getting the totem will help a bit until you can get a horse and Journeyman boots. (I'm not sure if there's other speed enhancing items in game - no telling what those tinkerers can do!) Alternatively, you can also get the best drink and sprint everywhere. I've done that.

Also, Paladins can get a +10% horse at level 20. Not much faster than normal, and certainly not more than 30% as the OP was looking for, but better than no speed bonus at all.

Meh, it just takes some getting used to it. My inqy were plodding along for quite some time with 0%, my coercer and necro still are. Just make it toons that you feel is fun to play, find a group and go nuts (Not much running about then, so you wont miss them speed thingymabobs)
nab a druid class 45% or just spend 10 plat and buy a Clydesdale.

Hehee my guildie is the same way. He will only make fast characters or, at a minimum, characters that can port.

I play a fury as my main, and it's been very hard to adjust to life on my conjuror alt. More than just the outright speed difference, I was totally SHOCKED to discover how strict and punishing the encumbrance system is. My character can loot approximately 5-10 mobs before he'll be encumbered. Doesn't exactly make for a fun dungeon crawl.

It used to buff to 50% run speed, not sure after the nerfs.

Sike

Mystic SOW is down to 40% now. Time to take out the Spirit Steed again.

Norrsken is right though. My first character was a ranger, and boy, when I moved to a brawler to play that little rat seemed slow as molasses on an Everfrost morning. You get used to it though, really, if you just stick with the toon a little while. And later, that fast guild horse is amazing, heehee

Monks and Assassins can increase their Sprint to 70% using AA's. Combine that with some good power regen, and you're going places.

If you get a 40% horse (under 10 pp without spending status points), you'll sprint at 70%, then ride at 40% while your power regens, giving you a mean average speed.

Besides, a lot of the times you can let the power regen while waiting for something else. For instance, you sprint to a Griffin tower, let the power replenish while you ride, then sprint to the docks, power regen while waiting for the boat, etc.

It's really funny when people on horseback see my little halfling Monk whizz past them on foot

As a Mystic who feels a bit underpowered to begin with, at least I got my jollies being the fastest runner in the game (50% with AA's) ... of course for whatever ungodly reason we were nerfed with the last update and now we're a full TEN PERCENT slower. Personally I feel we should get a free AA reset for that one. Where's the love for Mystics?

Bards used to be able to max a KoS achievement (8 points) and get 46% (not counting J-boots) at level 38. Now, after the so-called runspeed improvements for bards, a bard has to max the KOS achievement (still 8 points) but can't get to 46% (again, without J-boots) until level 55. A new version of Selo's was added for level 55 which increases speed vs the level 38 Selo's +4% while at the same time the KoS achievement, Harbringer's Sonnet, had its out-of-combat rate reduced by -4% for 8pts vs 8pts before the "improvement". I'm sorry Mystics got reduced as the way to "improve" bard speed even though bard speed was made more difficult to attain the same exact level before GU32.
