Hey to the Guardian Community!

I have recently started a new Guardian on a fresh new account because my old account was compromised, which I played since launch. So I lost all my characters and items! =(. Before you ask, I was not doing anything I shouldnt.

Anyhow! I used to play a 70 Beserker, I loved to tank some raids and instances.

My current Guardian is 27, and I notice the big difference in Tanking Ability allready.

I would love to get back into Raid Tanking, however, how hard would it be to establish myself with decent gear to even start raiding for gear to let me into decent raiding guilds? Is it just too hard these days, as most guilds don't even look for upcoming Guardians to MT? Let alone one with really bad gear lol. At least, by that time I would probably have Xeg ='/. I guess relic isn't too hard to get, however Plate relic is pretty popular.

I was thinking playing a Necromancer to raid with instead, as I would have a better chance getting into a reputable raiding guild, easier. And I do Love necros, I think they're bad [Removed for Content], same with Warlocks. So I would settle for that, however, I really enjoy to tank, however it would be a heart-breaker to find out it's impossible to start MT'n for anyone when I get there!

I would be on Najena, trying out for Aussie Guilds to MT. Solo'in and group instances can only take you so far. I love to raid, I love Tanking and awesome plate, shields and swords! I'm not sure I would consider Betraying Berserker, as I have played one and enjoyed the tanking side of things more than the DPS side. If I want to tank, I'd rather do it better! Thats why I was considering Betraying mY zerk To Guard, however I didnt want to lose my Zerker Relic! =(.

Any insight would be nice for discussion! If worsts comes to worse I'll roll another SK or play the necro :p

Most guilds will almost never look for a guardian mt, if they already have 1. If they don't have one or their guard is on vacation then they let all the other fighters clam for the MT spot for a while. You kinda have to "grow" into a guild to be the guard MT sort to speak.

imo,

Gear is not the issue. You can gear anyone up to a decent raid level in a few weeks of KoS runs.

The problem is raid and zone knowledge. If you're joining an experienced raid guild, they're not going to want to wait while you learn how to pull every zone. They're going to expect you to lead them through zones fast and know encounters. That's the MT's job. Reading guides can work to an extent but you can't get away with accidentally pulling adds on a raid or not knowing a mob knockbacks and going flying. In short, you need to be able to lead, and in order to lead successfully you need to know more than everyone else (or at least shout louder).

And, then, there's the simple fact that it's rare you find a guild looking for a new MT.

If you want to MT, your best bet is to join a guild looking for an OT/MA with your Zerker (probably best discuss betraying up front), because this will give you a chance to learn every zone by watching the MT. Then you can either move on to another guild that needs an MT or talk about sharing the MT duty (often, an experienced tank will be sick of doing KoS stuff like labs and jump at the chance for the occasional night off). You could alternatively do the same with your Necro and watch and learn.

I have to agree... It will be a rare occasion a Raiding Guild is looking for a Main Tank. Normally these guilds evolve with an established Tank Force. Some casual raiding guilds have more fighters and more tanks they would ever need. But who knows... maybe somebody starts leaving and then they are happy you have your Guard ready... But if you want to raid and level a class Raids need... I would vote for Dirge, Coercer, Templar, Inquisitor or Defiler... From my knowledge, those classes are always in (very) high demand.

Don't get too downtrod... I'm in a guild that raids t7 3-4 nights per week. We also include writ raids and still go back to courts for guild xp (level 5. We're still looking for one more guard to gear up for a OT, and MT when I'm not there. I would level fast, and find a guild that isn't quite 60 and is raiding. You should be able to hit courts with them and start picking up some fabled t6 as early as level 55, then augment that with some of the better legendary t7 drops. This will be plenty to OT/MT labs and lyceum for further gearing. Try to work in some of the guild writ raids for guild xp at the same time. The chest piece isn't bad till you pick up a fabled one, and all the slots have 115hp and ok miti on them till you get fabled. Its not impossible, you're just not likely to get into an upper tier raiding guild as an outsider, but you could easily establish yourself in a guild that raids regularly.

I don't understand what you guys are talking bout. I thought guards were the preferred MT in any group. They is never any question who the MT is when I'm in a group, even if I'm slightly lower lvl.

I'm a 27 guard on Venekor, I use him for PVP and the usual group members are tickled to death while I'm in the group. I am however wearing decent gear half mastercrafted half legend (about to begin the pvp gear conversion from legend) and all spells are master at least.

Others can do the job nearly all of the time, however. For groups... well about anyone can tank there, and a guard that knows what they are doing will be in some demand. In a raid, you usually want no more than 2 heavy tanks. If a guild has two active guards, they can't take another one and will forever be on the edge of being tank heavy. Hence all the plate tanks always looking for guilds and raids.

Incidentally, you will always be the tank in any group largely because that's all guards are really good at, not because you're the only one that could tank the mobs. I love the class, but we're very much a one trick pony that only really shines against very hard hitting raid mobs.

Snorm -- 70 Guard

When you are maxed out the guilds who only played on one horse will have lost their mt to a burnout or what not and will need another. This is where you come into the picture. If you are good enough you can join whatever guild you feal like.
