View Full Version : Clarity, breeze, twisting up bard songs, chanter illusions

There are a few key things I miss from EQ1. I miss how people could use their spells for a little cash in the original EQ. I remember donating some cash for the occasional SOW (SOW is still extremely relevant in EQ2 I'm glad to say) - or a teleport from a wizzie or druid, and especially the much-beloved Enchanter "Clarity" line of spells, which I was always willing to part with a nice little chunk of change for. I must admit I don't even really see the benefit of things like Clarity in this game yet. Even my robe of flowing thought III doesn't seem to have much punch to it. And I certainly don't see any spells that are so sought-after that people are donating a little cash to each other for the use of it. It was just a little "under-economy". I also miss the bard's ability to "twist" songs up - that was often something of a mini-game in itself. Finally, I haven't seen any of the amazing and entertaining illusions I used to associate with Enchanters in EQ1 - for example, I remember some very good times when I would transform myself into a gold coin and bet my guild mates that I could get like 10 people to stop and try to pick me up. Hahah. Beyond gold coins, chanters could become all manner of goofy things - light posts, trees (need to find me? I'll be that towering tree over there by the cave), boxes, and of course every race and gender under the sun. They were useless but really fun (well, the ability to transform into another race, including that of the opposite faction, was useful) ... I miss the occasional huge epic battle, like the one in Velious between the Dwarfs and Giants. Think that was part of a ring quest or some such thing. Or whatabout Grieg's End on Luclin, where your party members would randomly be transformed into various monsters. Suddenly you'd be traveling with a centaur, a ghost, a rabbit and a vampire ... hehe That was a pretty clever dungeon. Is there anything quite like it in EQ2? EQ2 is a stunning achievement, and has done a great job of capturing the flavor of EQ1 and coupling it with some major technology, but I just wanted to point out a few of the warm and fuzzies I miss from oldschool. Do you have any? (This isn't meant to be a whine session, more of ... just being able to think back on some good old EQ things that didn't make the transition over)

I formally request more useful illusionists as an illusionist. The spells are annoying at best, and you'd think we'd get some sorta spell firework display but nothing. I can make you look like a human though. Woo..o.. -sighs-

I didnt get to see that in Everquest but I think that they should be incorporated in eq2. Would give the game a bit of flavor.

if ya want twisting go back to eq1, simple as that. ALMOST NO bards here want it, and the ones that do want it are either plain stupid or want the class to go extinct

Twisting from what I know of it requires skill and lots of work to be good at it, perhaps those who want it would like to see some of the former glory from the class returned??? JUst a thought ... and as far as generalizing them for being stupid.. thats uncalled for Just my 2cp.

I kind of like the general rule of no buffs out of group. This game is already almost too solo friendly (Heck, I leveled a Guardian to 70 85-90% solo, try that with a Warrior in EQ1!) Alowing long duration buffs again would mean even less reason to group.

I miss Illusion Orc from DoDH, even if it wasn't LDoN Rujarkian Orcish leetness

Bring back Jesters for random illusions LOL Make it one of the benefits of worshipping Bristlebane

Currently any [Removed for Content] can play a bard and be good at it. Twisting required skill and trying to squeeze in that 4th song was always fun. I was severly disappointed with the bard *cough* in EQ2. There is no skill needed your essentially a bad rogue. Stab Stab Stun Stab Yawn Stab Sta......... Wake up Stab Stab. The twisting wouldn't ruin the class it would put some skill back into the class which it lacks. Ever wondered why bards are among the least played classes? All real utility has been stripped from them sure at 70 maybe you have some utility but any low level bard is nothing. Bard speed HA! Mystics are faster and even with nerf they will be faster. Bards in EQ1 could do crowd control, charm a pet, buff most anything or debuff but now? Uhm stab stab stab.

The clarity spells can clearly be seen in groups that add a class with the spell. The is no doubt about that. I haven't really seen much out of my flowing thought either BUT I am running clarity, mana cloak and the incombat regen too so its stacked with a few other spells. The limited illusions allows to enchanters rather stinks as there is a way for anyone in game to learn an illusion why would an enchanter class not know more? As a coercer I get Ratogna and Troll and that is it. Illusionists get 2 different ones also. What do we get instead? Freakin emote spells that only work on people lower level than you. Talk about useless even as a fun spell.

I'm a Dirge and you can poke twisting up your proverbial and yes i was a Bard in EQ1 to. Twisting didn't make me any better a player than I am now, it just gave me RSI. If i was to ask for anything from EQ1 as a Bard it wouldn't be twisting it would be songs that are AE based and that is about it but I am able to accept that this is EQ2 not EQ1 which if im not mistaken still exists if you want it.
