My hubby and I switched servers and he's running his Ranger again. He loves the class. I tend to like most any of the classes but want to choose one that compliments his Ranger well. Any thoughts?

That is a tough one because the Ranger cant tank and he cant heal. So if you choose a healer, he is gonna suck as a tank. If you choose a tank, obviously he cant heal you. It can be done but you are fighting an uphill battle and prolly will never be able to take on white or higher heroics. You will probably be stuck killing green heroics the whole time depending on how fast you gear up. With that said, I would say play a paladin/sk or bruiser/monk. Paladin/SK can heal themselves and the ranger as well as take alot of damage and keep aggro of the hubby. A monk/bruiser has a self heal but you will be stuck doing blue or lower mobs since you will not be able to get hit that much. You might even want to try a Necro/Conj. The pet can tank and you 2 can DPS. Plus, summoners can heal their pet and have some real nice utility. Good luck with your decision

in my opinion paladin will be best choice, with hate transfer ranger shouldnt need to worry about grabing aggro even if he goes full dps, palys are very durable tanks and can heal themselves quite good, they low dps isnt a problem as you would be grouped with ranger, wizy isnt bad choice but in some situations it may be far more difficult especially if there isnt enough room to kite (lots of dungeons) as roots will brake quite often, this setup could kill things faster but require far more coordination and player skills to work plus some luck another good point about going paly is that you only need healer to have full core of good group, another 3 players will be situational, much easier to find a healer than to find tank AND healer in same time

Me and my wife duo almost exclusively outside of raids and she plays a Templar. I use vitality/enfeebling/turgurs poisons, and in defensive mode she doesn't have any problems keeping me alive. On the rare occassion that she gets aggro in multiple mob situations, she can take a beating for awhile so I don't have to worry about getting aggro back right away. It's nice that she wears plate.

I like the Ranger/Pally combo the best, but the Ranger/Templar works real good also.

Edit: Just wanted to add, in the early levels, blue heroics were a little tough and heroic whites required a fresh set of CA/spells for us both. But it got easier as we leveled, and by the time we got into T6 we were able to drop yellow^^^ mobs quite easily.

Thanks for the help. We had even considered rolling 2 Rangers. It's a work in progress atm. I have a lvl 65 wiz on another server so I didn't want to do that again. Some nights I like to solo if he's off doing something so a conj is probably my best bet. I'll keep trying different classes though, I'll find the right one sooner or later

Ranger and Illusionist make a great team. Me and my wife ran this combo and can duo most single group instances and named. : )

My wife and I duo a Ranger / Fury combo and it works quite well... Remove Primal Agility, stack poisons, go sword and board, use snares and remember not to use deagro to spin HOs . I even kite around her in outdoor zones (not often, because it drives her batty). Sometimes she pulls agro, but with her DPS ability (and my ability to crank up the DPS when I have the mobs's back or range) I either get the mob back, or it dies before she does (well, not always... That's what Evac is for: Healer down :lol. We even manage EoF 72^^^ Named on occasion. Really, if you play off each other's strengths, and use all your resources (clickies, potions) you can duo *most* content with any combo.

My boyfriend and I duo most everything, Ranger and Warden combo. He tanks them just fine and gets all the aggro from healing and his CA's. If we find something that just hits really nasty, he roots and I still just lay on the hurt heh. Raincaller is also one of the main factors I think that makes our combo so good :p The stuns help the warden not to get beat on as much which equals more warden damage, more warden aggro, and in turn more ranger dps lol.

Hope you find something that works for you

I spend most of my time in a duo with a paladin (RL friend), and I really like the combo. He tanks and heals himself, and I just dish out the DPS. He almost never has to heal me because with his hate transfer buff, most of the time I can’t take aggro from him if I try.

Warden is definately the best healer partner for pve, if you are on a pvp server, i'd suggest dirge. Later on in levels ranger/dirge duo is insanely fun.

Strangely enough I play with a friend alot who has a kick butt 70 Assassin. We were just out the other night owning. He would pull and meele. I sat back and ranged.

It worked out sweet as the DPS just killed them before they really got anything off. We both have Raincallers so with all those stun procs its was too easy. Like taking candy from a baby.

I also have another friend who plays a Ranger. I usually tank on my Monk with him. It makes a nice combo as my monk is fabled out almost and mastered about. He is mostly mastered too and raincaller helps out. Only one thing is that i have to sit there half the time waiting for the MOB to come as he is stunned from RC...lol...dam annoying for the tank...lol...but it works well...Group FD is sweet in those cases were we pull to many..lol...and evac is down...hehe

I have a 70 Fury...havent tried buddying up w/ him on that one. But can see how a Fury or warden with Ranger would be a nice balance too.

Guess it comes down to one thing..kk..two things..how well you know your toon and how well you play with the other...i think any duo can work..as long as you know how to play together...its all pratice

hope this is food for thought...

Z

I've duo'ed with a 70 assassin, and it was raging good fun! We were able to easily kill all the nameds in Mistmore catacombs

Play a healer.

You'll zip thru normal encounters with no difficulty.

If the going gets tough, and you need a real tank type to do it, a good healer can easily find someone to tank for them.

I play a buckler-spec'ed guardian in fabled gear. My wife plays, among other things, a 70th level ranger. We duoed heroic werewolves in Loping Plains last night, killing a yellow-con named, among other things. No problem whatsoever, even without a healer. Oh, and aggro was a non-issue; didn't lose aggro even once.

I'm a firm advocate of th Pally / Ranger combo, duoed all the Claymore and Peacock questlines that way, up until the raid parts (there is a limit even for us ). The Paladin is a great tank, and with Amends has a nearly unbreakable aggro lock so us Rangers can stand back and pile in the damage. He can heal and ward himself on a regular basis so you don't need a healer with you to take on mobs. We've done countless yellow con heroics and named with that pairing, it's great.

I cant believe you've all missed the obvious solution of the Ranger/Ranger combo, there's nothing quite like a good game of mob ping pong

Funny you should say that... I remember back in T5 before any of the expansions came out. Me and another Ranger were desperately trying to get a group together to kill the Epic Bartender Clurg (or whatever he's called) in Feerrott. Couldn't interest anyone for love nor money, so for some bizarre reason we tried to duo it. The mob bounced between the two of us enough that one could regen while the other tanked. We kited him round the whole pond area hoping our agility would stop us getting hit. Would you believe, we actually succeeded. Well, he died on the last hit or something, but I remained upright and that's a victory in my book.

so far the best duos i have been in was with a conjourer/necro or a pally/sk. me and my wife play a ranger-assasin combo right now that we are leveling up so we can raid with them. I will have to say this duo sucks. we take turns pulling aggro, one of us does a big backshot and pulls, then the other one does a big backshot and pulls.

the kills are extremely fast and we can take on green heroics, but, its a tough combo to play. when i duo with others, the summoners and crusaders are better.

a healer works alright with my ranger, but you still run into that little detail of not being able to DPS like you should...the problem with that is,at level 31 i currently have twice as many ranged attacks as i do melee attacks...meaning that i am seriously gimped when it comes to "tanking" a mob. take alot longer to kill and is alot more sloppy than with a pet or a crusader to tank it for me.

just my two cents.

I think the best combo in the ranger/necro combo. A necro has some healing and can tank with a tank pet. I got more then a few levels this way!

On Nagafen I leveled up my ranger with a swashy to 70. With hate transfer on me we could kite anything with our snare/stun, my root combinations. on Butcherblock I leveled to 60 with my brother's guardian... it was horrible because we were both horribly underequipped and I had to do all the work with broken poison procs.

Ranger + warden fully fabled makes for a hell of a combo. Can duo ALOT of stuff up to yellow heroics. Just gotta be clever and loaded to the hilt.
