You assume it is not possible for a level 60+ assassin to beat you on this high hit ranking?

You assume it is not possible for a level 60+ assassin to beat you on this high hit ranking? :)

To answer your question: No, a level 60 assassin in full fabled could not remotely beat my highest 34,739 Decapitate hit. It just isn't possible with Assassinate. In fact, fewer than 10 people worldwide have ever legitimately beat that melee hit--but it's hard to tell how many exactly because the Leaderboard is bloated with bogus scores.

1st through 56th place on the Worldwide Melee High Hit Leaderboard are all 100% unquestionably bogus. They were attained using an exploit between November 2005 through January 2006. This is how it worked: a level 50 to 60 assassin (or other archetype) would use their biggest hit , like assassinate, against a level 1-10 PC with no armor on in a PvP Duel and they would hit about 10 to 20 times higher than possible otherwise. Sometime mid January 2006 SOE acknowledged that was an exploit and fixed it so bogus scores could not be achieved that way. However, they did not purge the bogus high hits from the Leaderboard--they just let them sit up there. Back then it was easy to tell the bogus scores from the real ones. The highest legit high hits back then were--at the highest--in the 12,000 to 12,500 range. So when we saw a 36,000 hit it was easy to discern that from a legitimate high hit.

Now It's not so easy, though, with legitimate hits in the 35k to 36k range.

The bottom line is that 1st through 56th, 63rd, and 70th place on the Melee High Hit Leaderboard are 100% bogus and should be purged. It's fuzzier with 57th, 58th, and 59th. They are questionable, but very well could be legit--it's just impossible to tell without a time-stamp or investigation. 60th is 100% legit. and the remaining 61st through 69th (other than 63rd) are probably legit but their timestamps should be checked if possible.

That type of purge doesn't sound too difficult, and many assassins worldwide wonder why it hasn't been done yet even though it's been more than a year since the exploit was removed. We've even tried (but failed) at keeping our own "ghetto high hit list" which has remained on the first page of the Assassin class forum without a sticky since Jan 2006. If that doesn't show that the Leaderboard is important to us then nothing will. The fact that there has been *no* official response to this issue in over a year is quite frustrating.

The Melee High Hit Leaderboard hasn't been updated in over 2 weeks. I'm hoping that the lack of updates is because SOE is in the process of repairing it. At the same time, I wonder if the lack of updates might just be because they have totally given up it and have pushed it aside for good--in which case I truly am beating a dead horse again...

Any official response to the issue, as to how feasible or practical it is to do a partial purge, would be greatly accepted and appreciated.

Nihyn -- Guk

(edit: spelling error)
