Hi everyone,

I recently made some new art of my gnome fury. I changed her looks a bit since last time. Back then some people commented that because she was the only one in the illustration it wasn't obvious that she is supposed to be smaller then say a human. So this time I put a human fighter type of character next to her. Some people now think that she is a giant though, lol. Anyways, I'm rather pleased with the result. The lighting of this scene took ages, and from start to completion it took me about two and a half weeks due to the very long render times, and endless fiddling with every part of the scene setup.

Apart from the 3D work I did some postwork to clean up a few things, add some magic effects to the staff and to add the border.

I always welcome some constructive advice. So feel free to share some if you want.

Well I start of in poser 4 and make, pose, dress, etc the characters I'll need. Then I move on to everything I'll be needing for the scene composition. I save everything as a pz3 seperatly, close poser and open up Vue esprit 4. (I'll hopefully be moving upto Vue 6 and poser 5 soon)

In vue 4 I start importing everything, the characters, every part of the scene and start putting everything where I want it. I didn't have to do much landscaping with this render, but mostly the landscaping is done around this time in the creation process too. Then I start the long and tiresome process of changing textures so they look better. After that I started the crazy process of getting the atmosphere and lighting done. Every flame you can see has a pointlight attached to it. The eventual final render time took about 10 hours. After that I opened the render into Paint shop pro and started post working to clean up some weird shadows and stuff, add the magic effects and eventualy the border, title and copyright.

That's about it, hehe.

Is not bad Altho i still have troubles getting used to the big garl not being a giant and the "gnome" not being a normal humanoid

I dunno if you know this, but its pretty much the basics into drawing humanoids

On a human, everything can be compared to each other.

The forearm is as long as your shins, your upper-arm(?) is as long as your thighs(?), your upper-arm is also as long as your head is high (from beginning of neck to the end of the head)

There is a few more rules about bodies but thats the basics.

On gnomes, their heads tend to be slightly bigger than normal, and their arms are usually a little shorter than their legs whos also "unnaturally" small compared to humans/the rest of their body. Gnomes tend to be more "tight builded" and more compact.

Its hard to create a gnome without having a counter "weight" (A new humanoid in normal size)

Like the lightning etc tho Very nicely done

Not bad and I have to say I wish gnome women looked like that in game. At the moment they look like halfling children that have had stunted growth cycles.

Hah, finaly someone who feels the same way as me about how gnomes should look. Although what Krilinye wrote made a lot of sense too.

Thanks for the comment Amana.

This picture is very well done. You do some nice work.

When I first looked at it, I was running in window mode and thought there'd be a 3rd character that was the gnome. I can see how people might think your human was a giantess, I think she looks human but still tall, like an elegant barbarian perhaps.

The gnome I thought was either a child or an elf. She is very elf-like to me. Gnomes arent so pretty hehe.

Im no expert on proportions as others have said here and Im totally incapeable of producing any work like this, I thought Id tell you how it looked to me.

Nice drawing

Thanks again for the comments, I really appreciate it. That is the great thing about posting in these forums. Usualy I get much more constructive comments that tell me what I can improve, while on art sites people usualy just say everything looks great. But how can I improve and learn if I don't get comments like here on proportions. So thanks again to everyone.

cba321 - gnomes are indeed not pretty in game. I guess in my imagination they are completely different then the ones we see in game, hihi . Next time I really need to work on the proportions though.

Kerowynnkaotic - she's actualy not holding a scimitar, it is a two sided blade, or whatever it is called. You can barely see the other part of the blade behind her upper arm.
