Recently, I took my 70 coercer into OoB with another 70 coercer, and we decided to have a pet battle to see exactly what the difference was between master 1 and adept 1 versions of charm.

We both charmed the lamia apprentice (also coercers btw) mobs near the end of the zone, stripped off all buffs, and proceeded with the duel. I let the adept 1 coercer initiate the attack, and we just sat back and watched the results.

I found it a bit odd that my master 1 pet won with only about 3% health remaining. I would have expected a much more severe spanking than that. Looking back through the log, the master 1 pet was definitely nuking for more, but the adept 1 pet seemed to be making up for it in melee, or in the number of nukes that it performed. The only thing I can think of is what has previously been referred to as attack scripts. If that was indeed the reason the fight was so close, I think it's possible that it could have a bigger impact than the quality of the charm in certain cases.

I wish I had time for more than just that one duel. I'll definitely have to try it out again if I get a chance.

i had noticed something simular... i've been regularly charming the same type of mob for pet and sometimes the mob would nuke like it had a machinegun. and other times it's nukes would be spaced quite far apart. A variable attack script that is assigned upon mob creation would certianly explain that behaviour.

Sounds like as good an explanation as any. My current favorite pet is the Redbeard Chaplain in LP. Nukes about every 5 seconds, has a nice big melee attack, plus it even occasionally debuffs the mobs. Keeps himself healed up nicely too. He's an inquisitor.

A few days ago I was mentored to 19 helping some friends do the Lightstone HQ. I charmed a Dervish Heretic -- also an inquisitor -- and it liked to run in and auto-attack, but didn't like to nuke or heal itself. I was so frutrated with it I canceled the charm and we just killed it. It was useless like that.

Both inquisitors, but 1 is awesome and the other sucks. Only thing I can think of is different scripts.

What i know from Conj/necro freinds is that when they use a Mage pet that the pet tryes to nuke when ever you send it to battle. The best thing that they can do to get nuke from pet is to back it of and send it into battle again. When i charm a Corpse candle in bm it normaly starts with a nuke (like 90-99% of the time). So .. when you charm a mage pet send it in and out at the battles to get more nukes that should work for with the most mage pets.

GU31 added a "/pet ranged" command so that your mage pet will stand still and cast anymore. Works for charmed pets too. No more need to "joust" the pet anymore.

i still joust cause with the attack script there is sometimes huge gaps where the caster pets do nothing. but if i joust them even with ranged attack on they just keep using thier 1st attack which is usually a nuke. some of them have a debuff spell that they cast first so i've been getting rid of them and picking up a new pet.
