I recently made lvl 50 with my ranger and I'm still using mostly Ebon Gear and Ebon weapons, I've tried a number of times using all the chem's and other items I can find to kill a lvl 40 named rat in Rivervale. But I get my butt very handed to me over and over and over in fact I don't even get him close to half befor I'm forces to evac or die. so far all my other toons can easly take named mobs by them selves with this kind of level gap. I'm just wondering if this is the norm for the ranger class or if I'm just not doing something correclty. I usually start with my most powerfull ranged attack then use my other close up attacks to stun or pin then backup for more ranged kicking an ho as much as possible. Most my ranged spells are adept I's the ones that arn't adept I's are Adept III's. My Monk, my Illu, and my sk can easly solo a named mob with 10 lvl gap. My Illu can solo named mobs the same level so i'm not sure that's an equal compairson but sitll. Is this the norm? or I'm I doing it wrong?

You will find solo'ing nameds and ^^^ will give you trouble in tight spaces like Rivervale. WE need to be able to run around and kite things to prevent from getting hit. With that said, I jsut solo'd a level 72^^^ named and he did not hit me once for the Ivy Shrouded Orb Signature quest. At 50, it is really tough b/c you don't have sniper's shot which take a huge chunk of health and stuns and knockbacks. This is what I do.I also use fettering for the extra snare on named mobs Get at max range and set my trap and stand on it. Go stealth -> focus -> snipers ->rain->triple>snaring. Now they are running really slow at you so I spam the rest of my availbe attacks while back up so it runs over my trap. When it hits the trap I do surveil->veiled fire and whatever else is up. I then hit killing instincts and kite the MoFo using Lunging blade only if it gets close to me. I realize at 50 you dont have trap or snipers which is a huge help. For now, use fettering and only kite in wide open spaces. This makes us useless soloing dungeon mobs. Once you get to 60 you will find solo'ing a alot easier with our ancient teachings spells

I'll try that. Thanks

Wow you need some serious help if you cant solo something 10 levels below you. I constantly solo lvl 68 ^^^ everyday plus the lvl 70+ in loping plains. Mind you I do have trap and sniper shot...although I hardly use sniper shot. But at lvl 50 you shouldnt have a problem sense you have your raind of arrows. That combined with most likely a master 2 of your hidden fire or triple arrow I forget which you get before 50. But a named 10 levels below you should be easy. If its killing you to fast, kill him in defensive. Start off by using your focus aim line (im 70 so I dont really remember the name of the lower spells haha) and use hidden fire and rain of arrows followed by triple arrow, or which ever you made a master 2 of. By the time you've got them all of just stun it and snare while on the run when it finally reaches you putting more distance between you two. With that snare you should be able to get off debilitating arrow and miracle shot lines, also if you double shot is any good the heat debuff from the snare should increase damage. Then finish up with snaring shot...or use that if your snare breaks. By that time you should of used up the majority of your good CA and still have your root up for emergencies.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I beleive thorny trap is a lvl 52 or 53 spell. Sniper Shot is attained at lvl 58 and it rocks with it's high hit and short knock back effect. It's obtained just like every other spell after lvl 50, the only thing that makes it more rare is that it's not in a tradeskiller's recipe page when they scribe for that level. Another thing to consider when you get up in levels is doing the HQ for the Raincaller bow. It'll stun the mob for about 5 secs and sometimes it'll proc so often that the mob will never move the enitre fight.

-Panthra
