My Fury only exists to duo with my wife's Paladin, the healing overkill combo as I see it

I'm getting close to L20 now and have only spent 1AA (shapeshift) as I'm not really sure which of the other choices would benefit this character.

I'm not looking for an FotM build, just some thoughts on what would work in this situation and why.

I've considered builds that would give me extra healing, extra spell damage or even extra melee damage in beast forms but can't make my mind up. Any suggestions from people who've played a similar character, or just understand the AA trees better than me (which isn't hard)

Duo with a Pally you should be spec'ing your AA's for full dps without a doubt. Without a designated dps class, your challenge will be to kill the mobs fast enough, not trying to survive them. With that in mind your 1st AA's should go down the Druid int (Stormcaller) line, and the Fury Energy line. Max your bonuses to nuke crits, disruption, and all 4 of your in single target and encounter nuke buffs (If you want the RoF & CoS buff thats up to you, but as a duo I doubt you'll be pulling multiple encounters consistently). Then get Energy Vortex, it rocks. After that, (at least 46 AA's total, more depending if you fill the rest of the items in those lines) I'd look into maybe the Druid strength line combines with the Fury Animalism line? A little more gray area here, but as power may become an issue in the longer fights you'll see as a duo, combining the heal proc on melee, with melee haste, double attack, and the Animal Form AA that gives you power back on each melee strike should up your endurance significantly. (The melee heal proc combined with Pally's having some self heals makes up for the Animal form stifling you. As a full group healer I would steer you more defensively oriented with heal crits and such, but for a duo where (especially with a pally) your DPS is really important, you'll get more benefit from spec'ing offensively. & don't underestimate the ability to refill your power bar in-combat at will form the Animal Form line. Even in raiding I find this ability extremely useful, I can push a lot harder, and then recharge myself when OOP and push again. (at a 1 minute recast, it should be up every time you're LoP) And as a duo, the healer running OoP will be your biggest concern.

Thank you, that all makes perfect sense.

I had noticed that the only problem we've really had was low power, and that was when we took on a heroic group of 3 one level higher than us. Under normal circumstances the Paladin's health rarely gets low enough for me to need anything except a regrowth when she gets adds.

The power regen in animal form sounds very handy for later levels, but I'll look at the DPS lines first as you suggested. I admit that sometimes the mobs can take a little while to die and extra 'oomph' wouldn't go amiss.

At level 20 you have several important abilities yet to come and you will find your tactics changing as you get them. Strike of Thunder at level 23 and Starburst at 32 will both make a big difference. I took both as Master II options. Regarding AA's 448 in the Int line for max crits is probably a good way to start for a DPS druid.

I'm in full agreement with the folks above...

I typically duo with a work buddy of mine -- he's a Guardian. I chose the damage-related AAs (30 points at level 39), and it's worked out very well. I first went down the Fury line, right-hand-side to minimize the DoT application time and re-cast and to minimize the re-cast on the two nukes available. The Energy Vortex ability at the end of the line is, in a word, amazing. Even in my 30's, the DPS parses [not a fan of 'em, but he runs them so meh] would consistently be very impressive, especially in winter-wolf form [which you have with Shapechange if you have a blunt weapon in your hand]. All with spells at Adept 1 quality or less, I'm not rich...

My mentality for going damage-related AAs was that, well, as a Guardian (or a Paladin) they won't be putting out super-impressive DPS, and the faster the critter dies, the less healing (and downtime) we'll have.

Even with that AA choice, I can still heal quite well in a group setting, duo setting, or even solo.

Life DPS-wise will really change at 23 (?) with the Storms nuke. It's a blast, pun intended.

Agreed with all of the above that when duoing with a pally your focus will have to be on DPS. Keep in mind, though, that a well-built fury can easily steal agro from a pally, though amends will help a bit with that. Also keep in mind the tradeoffs with Energy Vortex, you will sometimes have to cancel it quickly in order to effectively heal in an emergency. At high levels your ability to take on groups of enemies will rise considerably. Drop Ring of Fire and Call of Storms at once and watch things die--just be sure that they do, because you /will/ pull agro with that combo. It's especially effective with the EoF AA for CoS maxed, as you aren't stunned for long and it unloads a ton of damage in a very short amount of time.

The AA for DPS system is working out quite well, I can get the insect DoT on a lot more often now and, yes, I did once manage to pull aggro off the Paladin when I got a bit 'active' *coughs*

Hit 20 today and I'm mainly fighting in Wolf form with a proccing Hammer that I made. I let the Pally pull so she has a chance at holding aggro then I start unloading. We're pretty effective now and I appreciate all the advice everyone has offered.

Thank you.
